McIntosh Scores Hangover Victory

It was day two of the 2019 Hangover under beautiful skies and a packed crowd as we wrapped up the year of racing.

The 602 Late Models would open the show with a 20 lap feature. Jeremy Broome earned the pole earlier in qualifying getting himself the best spot for the A main. The green waved and it was yesterdays winner Booger Brooks who got the lead headed into turn one. Broome, Eli Beets, Nick Perry and Seth Wimpey would be your top five on the start. Trouble early for the #F4 of Mike Franks would slow the pace early. Back to green and the best battle of the race seemed to be between the #88 of Smith and the #19 of Perry as they raced door to door the majority of the feature. Trouble for the #36 of Josh Keeble who stalled while trying to exit the track would bring out the final caution. No one had another for Brooks as he picked up his second win of the weekend.

After yesterdays show stealing race it was back to action once again for the Open Wheel Modified. A second place finish yesterday left Lucas Lee looking for a little redemption and he was set on go as he took the lead as the field went screaming into turn one. Tyler Nicely was another driver looking to make up for yesterday as he went for a spin while running in the top three. Today was much better as he was working the low line under Brad Dyer early on. Trouble for the #44 of Andy Sherley would bring out the caution erasing the lead the top two had built up. Jeff Hamby had been running a strong top 3 but would pull off track with mechanical problems ending his day early. Yesterdays winner Peyton Harlow was once again putting on a clinic as he moved himself into the top three. Brad Dyer also had a great run going but would loop his #20 in turn two ending his chances at victory. Up front Lucas Lee would inch away in the final laps to pick up the win.

The living legend Ronnie Johnson would start on the front row for the Crate Late Model feature alongside yesterdays winner Riley Hickman. The green waved and Johnson would use the high line to rocket off turn two putting his legendary #5 into the lead. Trouble would show its head early as Rusty Ballenger and Clyde Stanton tangled in turn four on the opening lap. Back under green Johnson and Hickman putt some distance on the third place driver. Zach Sise was working the high line trying to pick up some positions. Jesse Lowe didn’t have the best qualifying spot but he had hit the setup just right on his #5J as he picked them up quickly. Johnson quickly found himself in lap traffic allowing Hickman to close in on him. A strong run for Brandon Miller saw him move into the top three. Lowe was on a roll as he was now working past Miller and into the top three. A late caution would set up a restart which saw Lowe continue his drive now up into second. He would run out of laps as Johnson picked up the win.

The next race would be the Super Late Models doing battle for 40 laps paying $5,000 to the winner. Donald McIntosh has been money at 411 so it was of little surprise when he set fast time in qualifying. The stacked field would scream into turn one with McIntosh showing the way over Riley Hickman, Jackie Boggs, Jordan Rodabaugh and Cory Hedgecock. Hedgecock was on the move early as he moved past Rodabaugh into the third spot. Excellent racing all over the track as Bobby Giffen, Mike Weeks and Chase King went three wide down the back. McIntosh was setting a furious pace as he found himself in lap traffic after just 9 laps. The top three had a great battle as lap traffic had allowed Hedgecock to eat into the lead of the top two. Hickman seemed to have lost the handle on his #D2 as he lost several spots falling back to the fourth spot by the end. Up front McIntosh proved why I call him Money as he went on to win his third Hangover.
