Riley Hickman Wins On Night 1 Of The Hangover

It was back to action at Tennessee’s Action Track with the 10th annual Hangover.

First up on the schedule was the B-Hobby/Super Street feature. Zach Howell would set fast time earning the pole for the 20 lap A main. However it would be outside pole sitter Reagan Williams who took control of the race on the start with Howell, Skylar Douglass, Duke Lowe and Charles Devine in chase. Travis Reno was fastest in practice in his return to 411 but slowed with a cut tire ending his night early. Douglass had the heat turned up on the top two as the early laps ticked off. Williams looked to have the dominant car out front but he and Howell tangled ending his night with heavy right front damage. With Williams out of the race and Howell off with repairs that would hand the lead over to Duke Lowe. Lowe would hold on to pick up the win in a great race.

Next up was the 20 lap Front Wheel Drive feature. It would be Michael Rittenberry, John McCloud, track Champion Nathan Adams, Jordan West and Dustin Duncan making up your top five on the start. Duncan was working the low line trying to get a run under West for the third spot Rittenberry began to pull away out front but the battle was intense for the second spot. Daryl Teefeteller would make hard contact with the turn two wall ending his night. Trouble for the #14 of Chris Norris would bring out the caution slowing the pace. An amazing battle between Bryan Williams, Dustin Duncan, and John Willard put on a great show for the fans. Willard and Williams would trade paint several times before Williams eventually got the position. Up front Rittenberry would pull away to get his first win at 411.

Ricky Smith would break the track qualifying record in 602 Late Models. The green waved and Smith set sail ahead of Booger Brooks, Nick Perry, Eli Beets and Bobby Elkins. It didn’t take Brooks long as he was working the low line and made his move taking over the top spot. Smith started on the pole but slipped back to the third spot throughout the feature. Mechanical issues would end the night for the #12 of Jeremy Broome as he pulled off track early. Smith would work his way back into the second spot as his car seemed to be getting better on the longer runs. Up front it was all Booger Brooks who pulled away to a big lead picking up the win.

A wild Classic Car feature was up next for 20 laps. 2019 Track Champion Lee Merritt would earn the pole in qualifying for the feature. The green waved and Merritt put his #14 on point with John Stevens giving Chase ahead of Will Carey. Stevens seemed to be a little loose as Adam Engel would slip by and take the third spot away. A great three wide battle between Shaun Sise, Mac Lockhart and Engel put on a thrilling show. Things would get heated as Stevens and Will Carey would get together in turn two collecting the #5 of Chesney. Stevens would pull off track with a cut tire and wouldn’t return. The yellow flag wasn’t done showing itself as Sise and Lockhart would tangle in turn four once again slowing the pace. Carey was working the low line trying to get under his teammate for the lead but Merritt was really hooked up on the inside. Merritt would hold on to score another win.

Next up was the 25 lap 604 Crate Late Model feature. After picking up the win last time out, Riley Hickman was back and still in impressive form as he set fast time in qualifying. Hickman would jump out to the lead on the start with Brad Lowe, Jesse Lowe, Eli Beets and Zach Sise your top five. Brad Lowe would have a rough go of it as he spun while running in the third spot putting himself to the rear. Sise was set on go as he moved himself into the top three just behind the leaders. Trouble for the #33 of Wesley Brummett who slowed bringing out the caution. We wouldn’t be back racing long as Zach Shannon and Jim Couch would tangle coming off turn two on the restart ending both their nights early. Jason Cardwell was showing some real strength as he powered his way past Sise and into the third spot. Lowe was setting his sights on Hickman as the top two pulled away from the rest of the pack. The field began working the very bottom of the track as finding grip was the mission of the day. Hickman would inch away from Lowe in the final laps to score the victory.

The final race of Day 1 of the Hangover would be the Open Wheel Modifieds. After a quick caution for the #79 of Doug Carson it was off to the races with Ricky Arms out rocketing out front ahead of Lucas Lee, Jeff Hamby, Clayton Miller and Peyton Harlow. Hamby had a strong run going as he worked the inside line trying to get the second spot away. Trouble for the #327 of Ricky Tinch who slowed with issues. Big drama on the restart as the leaders got together sending Arms hard into the outside wall ending his night. He wasn’t very happy with Lee who would take over the lead. Back under green and it was a show stealing race as Lee Hamby, Miller and now Tyler Nicely were all over each other for the lead. Nicely would end up looking his machine in turn four just after getting the third spot. Peyton Harlow had really found something as he was closing in on the leader. He’d use the low line to power past Lee and into the top spot. The final laps would see him pull away to pick up his first win at 411.
