Hedgecock dominates for late model victory

With a 15.001 second lap time, Terry Poore set fast time in Sportsman qualifying just inching out Brian Courtney. As soon as the green waved Poore jumped out with the top spot ahead of Rodney Kiker. A little further back in the pack Rex Coffey began working his way up through the pack by moving past David Kerr. With back to back wins to his credit, Courtney quickly picked up where he left off last week by moving past Kiker and into third position. Just one lap later he used the inside line to take the top spot away. The caution waved on lap 9 for Sise who spun. It wouldn’t be a very good night for the youngster who was involved in two separate cautions. The night would come to an end early for Cody Gloyne who stopped bringing out the yellow again. David Clark had a strong top 5 run going in the early laps but got loose in two and spun his machine around. The bad luck just kept coming for Clark as he tangled with Zach Sise in the final laps. Up front it was all Courtney who held off the pack for his third consecutive victory.
UPDATE (8/10/15): Courtney was declared illegal and disqualified. Poore has been declared the winner.

Up next was the 20 lap Street Stock Feature. Jerry Hux earned the pole earlier in the day by turning in a 16.458 lap time. The chaos was abundant in this one and showed it’s ugly face on the very first lap as Tracy Wolfe and Rocky Ogle got together sending Wolfe for a spin. Wolfe would get his spot back with Ogle being sent to the tail end of the pack. Austin Neeley took over the lead when the green waved but it wouldn’t last long as he also spun bringing out the caution. Under green again and Pete Wright began working the low line under Hux trying to wrestle the top spot away. More trouble for Neeley who cut a tire on lap 6 and had to head pit-side for repairs. The field just couldn’t seem to get going as the caution waved time after time. On lap 8 Wolfe made his move for the lead and powered past Hux. Just like with Neely it wouldn’t last as Wolfe spun the very next lap giving the lead back. The race would be cut short and Hux held off Kilby on the final restart to pick up the win.

Bryant Idles took the lead as soon as the Mini Stock feature started ahead of Randy Wade, Tommy Metler and Randy Lane. On the very first lap Ward showed everyone his strength by moving past Idles and into the lead. John Byers who already had an incredible 10 wins to his credit in 2015 slipped by Lane to take over 4th in the early laps. The top two of Ward and Idles had put a little distance on Metler and Byers who battled it out for the third spot. By lap 8 it looked like Ward was gonna check out on the field but a caution two laps later erased his lead. Finally on lap 13 Byers was able to move past Metler and take the position with his sights set on the leader. On lap 17 everything changed as Wade got loose and spun while leading in turn two. Idles had no where to go and was collected in the spin. Since the caution was called on Wade Idles would take over the top spot but he couldn’t hold off Byers who used a last lap pass to pick up his 11th win of 2015.

The always exciting Classic Cars were up next for their 20 lap feature. A win in the heat race earlier in the day put Hayston Collett on point. However it would be John Stevans who took control of the race. Points leader Justin Overton who had his first DNF of 2015 last week was looking to make up for it. He wasn’t gonna waste time as he went three wide with Bobby Pressley and Joel Wolfenbarger. Last weeks winner Joe Keck knowing he had a chance to gain points again made his move on lap 3 taking over the runner up spot. The caution waved on lap 8 for Eli Keck putting everyone back in touch with the leaders. Pressley and Overton spent a good part of the race fighting for the third spot. Joe Keck looked to have found something by changing his line in the turns. Keck put his #78 machine about a line higher than Stevens was running and quickly gained ground. It paid off in the closing laps as he was able to take the top spot and went on to pick up his second straight win.
1: #78 Joe Keck
2: #7 John Stevens
3: #98 Justin Overton
4: #07 Adam Pressley
5: #13J Joel Wolfenbarger
6: #88 Richie Overholser
7: #8 Eli Keck
8: #18 Rusty Welch
9: #1 Hayston Collett

The final event of the night would again be the 30 lap Late Model feature. After winning his last time out, Trevor Sise set fast time clocking in at a 14.312 lap time. Beside him with a 14.381 was Cory Hedgecock. Chaos again showed it’s face with Brandon Williams and Mitchell Childress getting tangled up on the very first lap. All would continue on but Jason Manley wasn’t so lucky. Manley had to pull off track before ever even getting up to speed. When the race got going Hedgecock set sail with Estes and Sise in his tire tracks. Another quick caution on lap 2 for Brad Seagle put everyone back on Hedgecock’s bumper. Brandon Williams tried to make his move on Sise for third with a dive deep into turn three but had to fall back in line. Just 7 laps in and the top two had already pulled away from everyone else. Williams would try again on lap 9 but almost spun in two allowing Sise to pull away. Eddie King Jr would see his night come to an end on lap 10 along with Adam Beeler. With Hedgecock driving away the fight was on for second between Estes and Sise. With 10 laps left Hedgeock was a full straight-away ahead of the battle for second. Estes would inch away from Sise in the closing laps but could never gain any ground and had to settle for second.
