Sise holds off Cardwell for victory

With a lap of 14.615 Brian Courtney put his #71 machine on point for the 20 lap Sportsman feature. With the green in the air the action immediately picked up with Wayne Rader looking inside Clyde Stanton for position in the opening laps. The yellow would wave quickly for Lee Merritt who went for a spin on just the second lap. With three wins already to his credit in 2015, Jesse Helton made his move to pass Terry Poore and into the runner up spot behind Courtney. Just a couple laps later saw Adam Mitchell slip past the debuting Tyler Pearson. The moment of the race came when Poore, Helton and Courtney were racing for the top spot. Poore and Courtney tangled resulting in Courtney going for a spin collecting David Vandergriff. Poore would be sent to the rear with Courtney getting the top spot back. Back under green the top two once again began to put distance on the field. Rader continued to work over Stanton for the third spot but had to fall back in line. As the laps ticked off the scoreboard Helton would close in but had to settle for second.

With a 15.963 it was Jerry Hux who set fast time in street stock qualifying. Trouble would find Charlie Bates as he made significant contact with the turn two wall ending his night early. He wouldn’t be alone as Dwayne Fox also pulled off the track in the early laps with a cut tire. The top three quickly pulled away from the pack with Watson leading the way over Hux and Emery. Jon Cook powered past Tyler Smith just 5 laps in moving himself into the top 5. A lap later and Emery was closing the gap on Hux for second. A caution for fluid on the track gave Emery the break he needed to erase Watson’s lead. By lap 14 Emery was all over Hux constantly looking inside coming off the corner. Finally on lap 16 he made the pass and took the spot away. With just 4 laps left it looked like time was running out but that’s why we run every lap. In the final few laps Emery pulled closer and closer to the back of Watson. Coming off turn two he got a great run on the outside as the two drag raced into three for the final turn. He would get another power run off the final turn and beat Watson back to the line to score the victory.

Randy Lane jumped out to the lead on the start of the 20 lap Mini Stock feature. Just two laps later John Byers was already working the inside of Tommy Meter for the second spot. The top three cars were clearly spot on with their setups as they drove away from everyone else. On lap 7 Byers moved past Lane and into the lead. By lap 11 he had a half straight-away lead on Lane and Metler. The fight wasn’t over for second though as Lane had his rear view full of Metler. Up front it was all Byers who cruised to his 9th win of 2015.

Adam Pressley put his #07 machine into the lead on the start of the Classic feature with Evans and Keck in his tire tracks. Justin Overton has dominated the Classic car division and he quickly began to pick up where he left off. After just two laps he moved into the third spot behind Pressley and Evans. He wouldn’t be happy with third as the very next lap he moved past Evans and into the runner up position. Trouble bit Joe Keck who spun bringing out the caution and sending him to the tail of the field. Racing for a spot inside the top 5, Joel Wolfenbarger looked under Eli Keck but had to fall back behind. It only took Overton 5 laps to move into the lead in search of another win. A caution on lap 8 allowed everyone to catch their breath as the Classic Cars once again put on a great show. After spinning early in the race, Keck would have an impressive rebound by moving into second with just 8 laps left. The top 3 pulled away from Eli Keck who had his hands full with Wolfenbarger. Keck would put pressure on Overton but it wouldn’t be enough to wrestle the lead away.

4: #8 Eli Keck
5: #13J Jeff Wolfenbarger

The final event of the night was the 30 lap Late Model feature. Trevor Sise would set fast time earlier in the day clocking in at a 13.741 being the only car under the 14 second mark. The race got off to a rough start with two consecutive false starts. Once things got going Sise took the lead with Cardwell and Welshan in chase. Layne Clifton got a little too high and jumped the cushion coming off two making contact with the wall but continuing on. By lap 5 Sise was already inching away from everyone with the lead but a caution on lap 10 erased all that. On the restart the leaders were racing hard and Welshan got loose coming off two and spun down the track setting off a big wreck. Welshan, Henry, were all involved and all would have heavy damage with Gary Critenden getting the worst of it. After a lengthy red flag to remove the wrecked cars the race resumed with Sise in control. With just 8 laps left Ryan King was working the track perfectly closing in on the back of Cardwell for second. Up front it was all Sise who pulled away in the closing laps to pick up his second win of 2015.
