Manley scores win on a freezing night

Last weekend with the Chevrolet Performance late models in town, Cory Hedgecock set fast time but had his time disallowed. On a freezing cold night at east Tennessee’s action track Hedgecock was looking for redemption. He set fast time in qualifying earning the top spot alongside former 411 Motor Speedway champion Josh Collins. The green waved and Collins set the pace quickly as he took over the top spot. The action was furious throughout the entire field as Ross White made a move early to slip himself into the third spot. Jason Cardwell and Johnny Ridings battled for a spot just outside the top five as the laps began to tick off. The lead for Collins was anything but comfortable as Hedgecock begain to reel him in. After a quick caution on lap number eight Jason Manley began showing his muscle and moved past White into the third position. After a strong showing last weekend Drew Kennedy had his hands full as he fought for the seventh spot. By lap thirteen the top two of Collins and Hedgecock had put some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack. On lap eighteen Hedgecock took a look inside Collins for the lead but had to fall back in line. The two raced bumper to bumper putting on an incredible show for the fans in attendance. A caution on lap 25 would be what Hedgecock thought he needed as it put him on the bumper of Collins. The green returned with just 5 laps left and Jason Manley made an incredible move to pass Hedgecock into second spot. Manley wasn’t done as he powered past Collins into the lead with just two laps left and picked up the win in an amazing race.

The 2014 Sportsman champion Wayne Rader set fast time accompanied by Rex Coffey. The two led the pack into turn one with Rader powering off turn two into the lead with Coffey and Blanken hot on his heels. Gary Blanken looked to make his move early, taking a look inside Coffey for the runner up spot behind Rader. After just a couple laps Rader began to stretch out his lead over Coffey. The night came to an early end for Brad Collins as he pulled pitside after just a handful of laps. With just nine laps on the scoreboard the top two had put distance over blanken in third who had his hands full with Adam Mitchell. Terry Poore was looking to move past Mitchell into the fourth spot but trouble reared it’s ugly head for last weekends winner as he spun down into the inner pits ending his hopes for two consecutive victories. With only two laps left in the 20 lap event Coffey got one final shot at Rader thanks to the caution. It wasn’t meant to be as Rader held on to pick up with win.

John Byers dominated the Mini Stock feature last weekend and he picked up where he left off by winning the heat earlier in the day. With Byers on the pole the rest of the field knew they would have an uphill battle if they wanted to stop him for getting to victory lane again. Byers put his J7 machine into the lead on the green and wasted no time pulling away from the pack. After just three laps he was already half a straight away ahead of the second place car. A caution on lap number five erased the gap for Byers, putting Mike Townsend on his rear. It wouldn’t last for long though as Byers immediately pulled away on the restart. The battle for second was intense between Henry, Griffin and Townsend. By lap fourteen Byers had pulled out to a half track lead and went on to score back to back victories.

The mod mini cars made their first appearance of the 2015 season. The race would be between Brad Pressley and Nick Perry. A caution on lap three for Marcus Thompson made it a two car race. Perry lead Pressley in the opening laps but on lap number five Pressley made his move and took over the lead. He would hold on to win the race.
