Johnson puts on a clinic

Coming off two straight wins in January and February Chris Rickett put his #36 machine on the pole, looking for 3 straight. Along side him when the green waved would be Charles Devine in his #00. The green waved and Rickett powered off turn two into the lead with Devine and Dale Watson in his tire tracks. The night ended early for Travis Crosby as he pulled off just a couple laps into the 20 lap event. Rickett began to stretch his lead out early as Devine and Watson battled for the runner up spot. The action was hot back through the pack as Bret Banks and Michael Millsap battled it out for a spot just inside the top five. The 2014 Street Stock champion wasn’t about to give in as he powered past Devine into the runner up spot in chase of Rickett. A caution slowed the pace on lap nine as Tony Simonic lost a tire coming out of turn four. When the green waved Devine and Watson picked up the battle for second. After a furious fight between the two, Devine was eventually able to move past and set his sights on Rickett. Devine would make a late charge and close in on Rickett but it wasn’t his night. Rickett pulled away in the final laps and scored his third consecutive Street Stock victory. Next Friday night March 27th, a $100 bounty will be on Rickett.

The green flag waved over the sixteen car Sportsman feature and Terry Poore took the advantage right off the start. The action picked up early as Adam Mitchell put pressure on Coffey for the runner up spot. On lap number four, Clyde Overholt moved himself into the third spot behind Poore and Coffey. Poore’s lead would close quickly as Coffey was on his back bumper by lap number six. Coffey would follow in Poore’s tire tracks until he got the opening he needed. Coming off turn four, Poore pushed up the track opening the door for Coffey to go by and take command of the race. Kip Sawyer was moving up through the filed but he went for a spin on lap twelve ending his chances at a win. Overholt would slip up the track in between turns one and two and lose several spots. It looked like Coffey had the race in hand but there is a reason you should never leave till the checked flag. Coming off turn number two Coffey got sideways and handed the top spot over to Poore who would lead the final three circuits and pick up the victory.

Up next would be the 50 lap Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Feature. After having quite possibly the best race in the 2014 season the fans were in for a treat as Mario Greshan took the lead of what would be an incredible feature. Greshan and Jake Knowles waged war on one another for the top spot as the laps clicked off. Knowles moved past and took the lead but a caution waved and put Greshan back on point. Brandon Williams wasn’t gonna miss out on the fun as he made an incredible move off turn two and moved into the second spot. Then off turn four, Williams powered into the lead. The pace was slowed again on lap eleven as Lavon Sparks slowed and went into the pits. The strong run for Forrest Trent would come to an end as he spun off turn two while running just outside the top five. The amazing action continued as Adam Martin moved himself into the lead on lap ten. After slipping back a little, Knowles began to regain his track position and by lap fifteen he would be back in the runner up spot. In qualifying Ronnie Johnson cut a tire and had to start 23rd of 24 cars. If you know anything about the Chattanooga flash, you know never to write him off. After just twenty one laps Johnson was up to the seventh spot. Pierce McCarter put his name into the mix and moved into the fourth spot past Williams. After leading early on, Knowles would slow just past halfway and bring out the caution. This would be exactly what Johnson needed as he made an amazing three wide pass down the backstretch and moved into the lead. It wouldn’t be an easy ride for Johnson however as Mario Greshan closed in on him when they battled with lap traffic. Greshan closed in but it would be Johnson who picked up the win.

Tommy Metler and John Byers would start row one in the 20 lap Mini Stock feature after winning their heat races earlier in the day. Byers would take the lead on the very first lap of the race with Jason Gregory and Chris Griffin in tow. After a couple quick cations the race got going with Byers and Gregory separating themselves from the pack. Metler would spend several laps fighting with Griffin for the third spot. After another quick cation, Gregory would dive inside Byers for the lead and the two made contact. The fight wasn’t over the two again swapped paint coming off turn four with Byers going back to the top spot. That wasn’t the only action on the track as Fireball Roberts moved into the top five past Chris Johnston. Up front Gregory was all over the back of Byers just waiting for him to make the slightest mistake. It wouldn’t happen though as Byers held on and scored the victory in a great race.

The final event of the night would be a 25 lap late model feature. Cory Hedgecock was looking for some redemption after failing to finish the Chevrolet Performance feature earlier in the night. Things looked like they were going his way as he jumped out to the lead in the opening laps. It wouldn’t last long though as something broke in the rear of the car just two laps in and ended his night. With Hedgecock taking the slow right back to the pits, that put the lead into the hands of Drew Kennedy on lap number five. By lap seven the top three began to pull away from the pack with Kennedy, Martin and Hall trying to settle it amongst themselves. Mike Weeks closed in on the top three and took a look inside hall for the third spot. The laps ticked off until a caution on lap seventeen slowed the pace and ending Dakotah Knuckles night. The caution ended up being what Greg Martin needed as he pounced on the restart and powered into the lead. Martin would lead the closing laps and pick up the win.
