Jimmy Elliott takes Night 1 of the Ole Smoky Spring Nationals with last-lap pass

Night 1 of the Ole Smoky Spring Nationals are in the books, and it was a great – and at one point wild – night for the cars and stars of the 411 Motor Speedway and NeSmith Late Model Touring Series. Beginning the night, it was Michael Courtney and Jason Gregory battling for the lead, but it was eventually Courtney taking the win in Mini Stock. The 2nd feature of the night saw Heath Alvey taking the checkers, leading all 20 laps, but over the final 10 laps Jordon Horton would make some noise, but could only reel in Alvey to about a half car length. The final feature of the night was the Ole Smoky Moonshine 40, where we saw Cory Hedgecock set fast time with a New Divisional Record for NeSmith, with a lap of 13.826. Joining him on the front row was Jimmy Elliott. Hedgecock would show the way from lap 1 to lap 4, when Ryan King muscled his way around Hedgecock. On a lap 24 restart, Elliott was able to power back into the 2nd spot around Hedgecock. Elliott would ride in the 2nd spot and peek for the race lead from lap 24 through 39, when King, working lap traffic in his windshield, would leave just enough room for Elliott to power inside in turn 3 for the final time. The two would make contact, and it was Jimmy Elliott out of Cleveland, TN taking the last-lap win.

Join us again tonight (Saturday April 5th) for the Ole Smoky Moonshine 50 for the NeSmith Late Model Touring Series, Night 2 of the Ole Smoky Spring Nationals at 411 Motor Speedway. NeSmith will be gunning for $3,000 to win across 50 laps tonight. Street Stock and Thunder & Lightning will each have a 20-lap, $1,000 to win feature. If you have a 2-day Tier or Grandstand pass, or if you have a 3-day pit pass, you’re covered for tonight. If not, it’ll be Adults $15 in the stands, kids 6-11 $5, and 5 & under free. Tier will be $25 per person, regardless of age. Adults in the pits $35, kids 11 & under $15 with a signed waiver. We’ll have live updates all night long on Facebook and Twitter, with the webcam rolling and live commentary taking place on the webcam. Ole Smoky Moonshine Nationals reset for April 3rd-5th

Seymour, TN – NeSmith and 411 Motor Speedway officials have been keeping track of the weather forecast all week, but Mother Nature has decided she wants the upper hand. With an increased chance of rain on Saturday, officials have elected to postpone the entire Ole Smoky Moonshine Nationals weekend to April 3rd through 5th. Everything will be the same, just a different date. “The NeSmith competitors took a huge hit down in Florida,” said Markus Hankins, Public Relations Director for 411 Motor Speedway. “enduring an unprecedented 5 consecutive day washout, and with Saturday having now an increased chance of rain, it was best, for the fans and competitors, to postpone the event a week.” Once again, the entire weekend has been postponed, meaning no practice tonight, and no racing this Friday or Saturday. We’ll get geared up and next weekend should be clearer and warmer!

The 2014 weekly racing season will now kick off on April 3rd-5th. Kicking off the first night will be an Open Practice scheduled for 5-9p ET on Thursday April 3rd. Providing support on Saturday night will be the Thunder & Lightning and Street Stock divisions, again each paying $1,000-to-win, $35-to-start with no entry fee. Both of those support features will be 20 laps.

For Thursday, pit gates will open at 12:00p ET, with practice running from 5-9p ET. Grandstands will be CLOSED, however, fans may spectate from Tier parking free of charge. Pits will be $15 per person.

This will be the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Touring Series’ 5th visit to the 411 Motor Speedway. In 2012, Crossville, TN’s Chris Wilson won the inaugural J.T. Kerr Memorial 40. In 2013, the series made three stops at the speedway. The first of which, the 2nd Annual J.T. Kerr Memorial 40, was rained out just shy of halfway. When the J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 resumed later in the season, it was coupled with the Ole Smoky Moonshine 50, both of which were won by Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN.
