Booger Brooks Claims Sweetheart Win

The 4-1-1 was ready to kickoff the 2024 racing season with the annual Sweetheart race.

After a long absence, the Classic Cars were back in action with a strong car count. Shaun Sise and Mack Lockhart would earn the front row for the feature in hotlap/qualifying earlier in the day. The green would wave and Sise would put his #16 on point with Rickey Wade, Lockhart, and Charlie Bates in pursuit. The caution would wave early as Will Carrey and Eli Keck would get together in turn three, collecting the #05 of Jacob Sutton in the process. Eventually back under green we’d see the #35 of Mark Sise take the lead looking to pick up where he left early last season. Trouble would find him as he’d tag the wall while leading coming off turn four. He’d return to the track but would pull back off and retire from the event shortly after. Wade had clearly found something in his #02 as he would take over the top spot and drive way from the field. However, he’d be disqualified post race, giving the win to Shaun Sise.

An absolutely stacked field of drivers were on hand for the Sportsman feature. Jed Emert would put his #98 on the pole in qualifying earlier in the day. The green waved and Emert looked to set sail with Addison Cardwell, Heath Alvey and Noah Phillips in chase. Brad Seagle was set on go as he looked to take over the third spot in the opening laps. Cardwell would make the move getting the lead as Emert would lose several spots in the early laps. Trouble for the #586 of Kenneth Matthews who went for a spin in turn four slowing the pace. The #C11 of Roy Norwood Jr would also have issues bringing out back to back cautions which resulted in him having to retire early from the event. Emert would look to rebound as he moved back inside the top five after falling back. He’d get past Baily Cardwell and put himself back on the podium by race end. It was all Addison Cardwell who pulled away in the second half to pick up another win.

The fight for the lead was one that might get this race nominated in the race of the year category. Joe Hamm, David Clark and Robbie Comer put on an incredible three way fight for the lead. Hamm didn’t have the best qualifying starting spot but would pick his way up through the field getting into the top three. The caution would wave for the #19 of Austin Helton who went for a spin in turn three. Back under green and the top three once again fought it out for the lead putting on a fantastic show until the #1 of Cody Satterfield would spin in turn two slowing the pace again. Hamm would eventually get full control of the lead and inch away from the pack picking up his first ever win at 411.

The Steel Block Late Models returned to highlight the 2024 Sweetheart event. Booger Brooks has been one of the most successful drivers at the 4-1-1 so it was of little surprise when he set fast time in qualifying. Brooks would lead the field on the start with Pierce McCarter, Hayden Ownbey, Jed Emert and Rusty Ballenger the top five on the start. Anthony White Jr was on the move early as he slipped past Ballenger to put himself into the top five. The top two began to inch away from the field, finding themselves in lap traffic quickly. McCarter seemed to be losing the handle on his #71 as he would give up spots to Ownbey and White Jr. Brooks had broken away from the field with White Jr now putting the pressure on Ownbey for the runner up spot. Jed Emert had a strong top five run going but slowed with a cut tire bringing out the caution. After a visit to his pit crew, he’d return at the tail end of the field. Up front, Brooks had it set on cruise as he picked up the win.

The Open Wheel Modifieds wee next on track for their feature. Colton Profitt would show the way on the start with Jacob Hall, Adam Ogle, and Chris Smith in his tire tracks. Trouble early for the #5 of Everett Larsons who went for a spin in turn four, bringing out the cautions. Shaun Sise would pull off track under this yellow ending his night early. Back under green, the fight for the third spot was heated as the #2H of Josh Hampton had reeled in the leaders. Smith had a strong start but would fall back a few spots as the laps ticked off. It was an easy day at the office for Colton Profitt who ran away to a huge lead, scoring another open wheel win.

A huge field of Front Wheel Drive competitors were signed in, giving them the largest car count of the day. Willie Fowler and James Burnette would lead us to green for the A main. This one would have some trouble getting going as the #21 of Travis Taylor would pull of track. The pole sitter, Fowler would also have to seek attention from his crew after a flat tire. Finally back under green, it was Burnette who assumed control ahead of Christopher Meyer, now in second. Fowler was setting a furious pace, as he worked himself back up from the rear. The caution would wave again for the #28 of Robert Gravitt who spun in turn three. Burnette would pull off track with mechanical issues, ending his bid for another win at 411. Meyer was now the leader as he looked to pick up the big win on the annual Sweetheart. It was an intense battle for the second spot as we saw Blake Hall, Eric Parton and Dakota Lamping all battling it out. Meyer would pull away to score the win.

The final event of the day would be the Crown Vic feature. This class has shown growth and today was no exception as a strong field of cars were signed in once again. Trouble would find the #414 of Darien Wampler as he’d be the first to have to retire from the A main. The green was back out and Joseph McGill put his #J1 on top of the scoreboard with Justin Watts and Charles Meinders in chase. Two flat tires would be the end of the day for Watts as he’d pull off track after the second one. Charles Meinders had now taken over the lead and would pull away to a big lead in the second half. However, he’d fail post race tech giving the win over to the #00 of Chris Meinders.
