Cory Hedgecock Cruises to Steel Block Win

After some time off it was back to action with the eighth annual Leftover. A record setting 255 cars were on hand to battle it out.

The first feature of the night would be the Sportsman feature. An Enormous field of fifty-five drivers were signed in, all fighting for the twenty four available spots. The race would get off to a rough start as the #0 of Travis Ward would loop his machine in the first turn which sent the #92 of Cory Cate into the outside wall. Both drivers would continue on. The Green waved and Terry Poore put his #2 on point ahead of Seth Jolley, Jed Emert, Heath Alvey and Dustin Ward. The night would come to an early end for Alvey as his #7 would slow with mechanical issues on lap three. Emert would pounce on the restart taking over the second spot as he set his sights on Poore out front. Going into turn two, Emery would end up looping his machine bringing out the caution. He’d get his spot back as the caution was called on Poore, who went to the rear of the field. Back under green, the racing was intense as drivers fought it out all over the racing surface. Booger Brooks didn’t have the best qualifying lap but was a man on a mission as he had worked himself into the second spot. On lap 19, Emert would leave the inside open going into turn three and Brooks would capitalize taking the top spot. He’d pull away in the closing laps, picking up another win.

Austin Atkins and Robbie Comer would lead us to green for the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Johnny Hughes, David Clark and Josh Henry would make up your top five on the start. Trouble would find the #13 of Austin Byrd who went for a spin in turn two taking Michael Millsap with him. Both drivers would be able to continue on without any damage. It was a great battle for the top spot as Atkins and Comer fought it out for the lead. David Clark put his name in the mix as he made it a three man fight for the lead in the first half. On lap 11, Atkins would get a huge run off turn two powering into the lead. Comer looked to have lost the handle on his #42 as he would slip back several spots in the second half of the feature. Atkins would inch away out front picking up the win.

Cory Hedgecock would earn the pole for the 40 lap $2,500 to win Steel Block feature. Hedgecock has dominated the 4-1-1 in recent years and would once again assume control of the stacked field as the green waved. Bradley Lewelling, Bobby Giffin and Chase King would give pursuit in the opening laps. With Hedgecock pulling away out front, it was a fantastic battle from second on back with Giffin slipping back through the field as the laps ticked away. Trouble for the former JT Kerr Memorial winner Greg Martin who pulled off track early and retired for the night. Jensen Ford was putting on a clinic as he used the long green run to move himself up into the runner-up position. The field would get a bit stretched out in the final laps with Hedgecock running away to a huge lead and picking up another win.

An enormous field of Open Wheel drivers were on hand for the annual Leftover. Colton Proffitt has been on a hot streak lately and kept that going as he earned the pole for the feature. He’d jump out front on the green with Jason Hollon and Ben Harmon in his tire tracks. The #15 of Jeff Hamby and the #89 of Corey Gordon battled it out just outside the top five. Proffitt had an absolute rocket as he began to run away from the pack. He’d quickly find himself in slower traffic as the laps ticked off. Former track Champion Jody Puckett was in a tight battle with Adam Ogle in the second half. Up front, it was all Proffitt who picked up the win.

The Front Wheel Drive feature would be up next for another 20 lap feature. Dustin Duncan would lead us to green with Austin Maples in his tire tracks. Trouble would find the #75 of Eric Parton who slowed with mechanical issues in the opening laps. The fight for the lead was a great one as Maples worked the low line while Duncan used the high line. They put some real-estate on cody Rector who held down the third spot. Maples would work his way into the lead and hold on to find his way to victory lane.
