Hedgecock Scores Sweetheart Win

After a long off-season it was back to business at the 4-1-1.

The Sportsman division were up first for a 20-lap feature. Duke Lowe would earn the pole in qualifying earlier in the day putting his #55 on the front row. The green waved and the stacked field went screaming into turn one with Lowe showing the way. Brad Seagle, Jake Whitehead and Kip Sawyer were in chase in the opening laps. The top four began to inch away from the rest of the pack until the caution waved on lap number six for a multi-car crash involving the #82 of Aaron McCarter, the #M5 of Garet McCloud and the #5 of Joshua Chesney. After a cleanup we were back to racing with Adam Mitchell moving up into the top five. Seth Jolley didn’t have the best starting spot but was putting on a clinic as he worked his way up into the battle for the lead just past halfway. Lowe had developed a push on his #55 machine keeping him from pulling away. On lap 16, Jolley would power past Lowe and into the lead to score his first victory at the 4-1-1.

The Classic Cars would be up next for another 20-lap feature. Shaun Sise would lead us to green ahead of Mark Sise, Bobby Mays and brother Jeff Mays on the start. Sise had clearly hit the setup perfectly on his #J16 as he began to inch away from the battle for second. Mays had now worked his way around the #35 of Mark Sise. The caution would wave for the #12 of Hugh Scalf. Back to green and the fight for the runner up spot was intense as Sise and Mays swapped the spot several times. The 604 Late Models were up next. A huge 38 car field had been cut down to the best 24 604 drivers doing battle for $3,023 to win. The #23 of Cory Hedgecock would set fast time in qualifying but it would be Hayden Cardwell who put his #22 out front ahead of Hedgecock, Brandon Miller and Rusty Ballenger. Mack McCarter was on the move as he quickly moved his #51 up into the fourth spot in the opening laps. The leaders were setting a furious pace and quickly found themselves in heavy lap traffic. Cardwell and Hedgecock were fighting through a swarm of lap traffic until a caution waved on lap 19 for the #7 of Smith. Back under green and long runs were the story of the day as they once again caught the tail-end of the pack. Cardwell would get caught up behind a slower car allowing Hedgecock to take the lead away. Josh Hampton and Chris Wilson would lead us to green for the Open Wheel feature. The green wouldn’t be out long as a big crash on the opening laps collected Adam Ogle, Jeremy Sears, Pete Sabatino and Billy Green. All drivers would be able to continue other than Green who pulled off track. It would be a short day for the #50 of Amos Bunch as he would slow with mechanical issues just two laps into the feature and retire early. Wilson had pulled away but the #2h of Hampton had chewed into his lead big time. Another caution would wave this time for the #01 of Ernie Woodard and the #88 of Justin Parker. Back to green and Hampton would make his move taking the lead away. He’d hold off Wilson to pick up his first win at 411.

After a very lengthy cleanup it was back to racing with the #19 of Brian Courtney taking the lead. Thomas started up front but began to fall back as he also gave up the runner up spot to the #24 of Seth Wimpey. The Street Stock feature was up next, and they would put on a fantastic show for the fans. Late Model regular Jesse Lowe would earn the pole in qualifying alongside the #XP21 of Bobbie Petty. The top five were all under a blanket as the #26 of Mat Hartman would take the lead in the opening laps. David Clark did not have a great starting spot but was flying up through the pack as he would take the lead just a couple laps into the feature. Greg Husky in his #23 would have a flat left rear and had to get some attention from his crew. He’d return but would start at the tail. That wouldn’t be much of a delay as he’d zoom past the field back into the runner up spot catching a caution for the #71 of Brandon Walton who spin in turn two. Huskey would make a charge, but Clark would hold on to pick up the win.

Kevin McKenzie and Ryan Harness would start front row for the first FWD feature. McKenzie, Harness, Dustin Duncan and Nick Adams would make up your front competitors on the start. A great battle for position between the #A93 of Nathan Adams and the #24 of Nick Adams. A scary moment would bring out the red flag as the #56 of Brandon Portsner would go for a wild flip on the backstretch. The driver would be okay, but he would obviously be done for the day with heavy damage. Trouble would find Nathan Adams as his #A93 machine would slow off turn four with smoke trailing. McKenzie had run away to a sizeable lead but the fight for second was intense with Duncan all over Harness. Duncan would take the spot in the closing laps, but it would be McKenzie who would score the victory.
