Chase King Scores First Super Win

The Super Late Models were back in town doing battle for a $3,000 payday at Tennessee’s Action Track.

The Crate Late Models were first up and it was a family affair on the front row. Zach Sise and brother Trevor Sise would lead the field to green on the start ahead of the returning Brad Lowe, Brandon Miller and Clay Coghlan. However trouble would find the older Sise as he slowed in the opening laps and pulled off track ending his night early. Rusty Ballenger came into the night tied for the point lead with Jesse Lowe but since Lowe didn’t show up Ballenger knew he’d be leaving with the points lead. He didn’t have the best start but was trying to work his way up through the pack as the laps ticked away. Up front Sise was trying to inch away but the fight was on for the runner up spot. Trouble for the #B00 of Josh Henry who pulled off track as well before race end. Lowe had found his line as he was closing in on the leader but jumped the cushion coming off turn two and slammed the pit exit. He would be okay but he was done for the night with heavy damage. After a long cleanup it was back to racing with Miller now in the runner up spot. He would close in on Sise in the final laps but would have to settle for second.

$3,000 was on the line in the Super Late Model feature. Chase King has been very successful in the Steelhead division but was on a roll tonight as he started on the front row for the 30 lap feature. The green waved and King lead the field into turn one ahead of Robby Moses, Dustin Linville, David Crabtree and Joseph Faulkner. The top three wasted no time pulling away from the field in the early laps. Linville was working the low line trying to get the runner up spot from Moses. Andrew Littleton and Dusty Carver had their own battle for position just outside the top five. Austin Neely was another driver stepping up from his usual crate series into the Supers. He had a good run going as he would end up in the top five by race end. Mack McCarter was picking them up and putting them down as he worked his way up to the front. He would pass David Crabtree and looked to be on a mission until trouble found him late in the race. He would jump the cushion in between turns one and two and tag the outside wall hard ending his night. Moses would make one final charge at the lead but wouldn’t be able to get it done. Chase King would go on to pick up his first ever Super Late Model Win.

The final race of the night would be the $1,000 Open Wheel Modified feature. Some of the best open wheel drivers were on hand to fight it out for the win. Taylor Cook was making his season debut at 411 and did so in impressive fashion setting fast time in qualifying. The green waved and it was Cook, Clayton Miller, Ricky Tinch, Jeff Hamby and Blake Brown making up your top five on the start. Trouble would find 411 regular Billy Palmer who slowed with mechanical issues on the second lap of the race ending his night. Back under green and Hamby was using the low line moving past Tinch. Cook was setting a blistering pace and found himself in slower traffic quickly. The battle for the third spot just wouldn’t let up with Hamby, Tinch and Brown still fighting it out tooth and nail. Matthew Hopper and Wayne James had their own battle in the back half of the top 10. The caution would wave for Josh Henry who spun coming off turn two collecting Kirk Turner in the process. Both drivers would be done for the night with damage to their machines. Miller would keep the pressure turned up on the lead but wouldn’t be able to make the move.
