Hedgecock Continues Topless Outlaws Dominance

Seymour’s 411 Motor Speedway hosted the Topless Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series for the Dylan Kennedy Memorial.

The Topless Outlaws rolled into 411 for a jam packed night of racing paying $3,700 to the winner.

First up on the card was the Classic Car feature. Mac Lockhart picked up his first career win last weekend. He picked up where he left out off by earning the pole for the A main in qualifying. Lockhart would take the lead on the start with Point leader Lee Merritt, Will Carey, Shaun Sise and Tim Bounds rounding out the field. The field was in a tight battle for every spot until the caution waved for Merritt and Carey who got together. Merritt would get his spot back but Carey would have to go to the rear of the pack. Back under green the battle was on for the lead as Sise had moved into the runner up spot setting his sights on the leader. Lockhart would hold on to pick up his second straight win.

2: #14 Lee Merritt
3: #J16 Shaun Sise
4: #11 Tim Bounds
5: #16 Will Carey

Next up was the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Last week it was another first time winner as Brandon Miller picked up the win. Miller once again would set fast time on the night and start on the front row for the feature. Miller got a great start putting his #89 out front ahead of Jed Emert, Jake Whitehead, point leader Clyde Stanton and Bradley Lewelling. Trouble for the #40 of Hunter Kerr who would bring out the caution early on. Back under green and it was a fantastic battle between Miller and Emert who ran door to door for the basically the entire first half of the race. Stanton didn’t get the best qualifying lap but had a long run setup in his car as he began to pick them off one by one. Miller would eventually clear Emert and go on to pick up back to back wins.

Cory Hedgecock came into the night with the point lead in the Topless Outlaw series. Since he’s one of the pre-race favorites it wasn’t surprising that he would earn the pole for the feature. The green waved and it was outside pole sitter Chase King who put his #44 on top of the scoring charts ahead of Hedgecock, Austin Neely and Matt Henderson. The night would come to an early end for Ellery Leake who pulled off track after just a couple laps. Barrett Lowe and Drew Kennedy had their own battle for position in the early laps. The leaders were setting a fast pace and found themselves dealing with some slower traffic. Hedgecock had moved up a couple grooves to try and get a run on King and it looked to be working. Ryan King picked up the win last time the Topless Outlaws were in town and he had another strong run going. Trouble for the #2 of JJ Tempelton who slowed and pulled off track early. The caution would wave for an accident between Matt Tharp, Clyde Overholt and Eddie King Jr. Overholt would retire for the evening but the others would continue on. The fight was on as Hedgecock was getting a huge run off turn four and pulled alongside the leader. A couple slidejobs and crossovers put on a fantastic show for the fans. Eventually Hedgeocck would get the lead and went on to pick up the big win.

Micahel Woods would start on the pole of the 20 lap Modified Street feature. The top four on the start were Woods, Robbie Comer, former Street Stock Nationals Champion Wesley Lester and Rocky Ogle. Bobby Petty would have a rough night as he pulled off track in the opening laps ending his night early. Comer and Lester had a great battle for the runner up spot just ahead of Ogle. Ogle had began to have some smoke trail his #9 machine but would continue on. Up front it was all Michael Woods who ran away to a huge lead and went on to score the win.

Jacob Sharp would take the lead on the start of the Front Wheel Drive feature ahead of Nathan Adams, and Cory Gumm. Trouble would find Gumm as he slowed to bring out the caution but he would continue on. Adams had gotten his #93 going as he worked the low line trying to get the lead. A scary moment as the red flag would fly for a scary crash. All drivers would be okay and after a lengthy cleanup it was back to racing. Adams has had an incredible season but would slow while running in the second spot and have to call it a night early. With Adams in the pits, that allowed Sharp to stretch his legs and pull away from the rest of the field. Gumm had his problems earlier but was headed back in the right direction as he got back up to the third spot by the races end. Sharp would pull away in the finals laps to get the win.

He got off to a great start by setting fast time in qualifying. He took control of the race on the start with Brandon Johnson, Wendell Williams in chase. Chris Brady had gotten himself up into second in the car previously owned by Josh Driskill. Last weeks winner Steve Owens Jr moved into the third spot behind the top two in the second half of the race. Henry would go on to pick up the win.
