Trammell picks up NeSmith win

There was a chill in the air but the action was red hot on this night. After several weeks of weather delays, the Street Stock took center stage for double features.

First up was the 30 lap main event for the Street Stock feature. Jeff McLemore jumped out to the early lead as the green waved. Rickett, Hux and Emery gave chase as McLemore set the pace. Shannon Emery made his move early on getting past Jerry Hux and into the top three. Up front Rickett began to turn up the pressure on McLemore as he closed in on the back of the J3 machine. It didn’t take long for Rickett to make his move and take over the top spot. The first caution didn’t wave until lap 11 when the 2013 Street Stock champion David Price lost a wheel. The battle of the night may have been between Jerry Hux and Dale Watson. The two raced door to door for several laps with Hux finally getting the advantage. A late caution on lap 21 gave the pack one last shot at Rickett but it wasn’t gonna happen.

After dominating the 2014 season so far, Michael Courtney started in the 6th spot. It didn’t take him very long as he moved up into the second spot after a couple laps. It was another battle of the Courtney’s as Michael closed in on the back of race leader Kyle Courtney. Kyle looked like he had control of the race until a slip up in turn two allowed Michael to get past and take over the lead. Mike Townsend showed his strength late in the race as he moved his #29 machine up into the second spot in chase of Courtney. However it wouldn’t be enough as Courtney went on to dominate the rest of the feature.

The night saw Terry Poore and Adam Mitchell lead the field into turn one of the Sportsman feature. Poore put his #2 machine into the top spot with Mitchell close behind. After problems in qualifying, Brandon Gardner had to start near the real of the field but picked up several spots early on. His charge ended as he tangled with Josh Evans, sending Gardner to the pits. After a couple quick cautions the racing resumed with Mitchell putting heat on Poore for the top spot. He got under Poore several times in the closing laps but couldn’t get past. Poore went on to pick up the win.

Ryan King and Rusty Ballenger have dominated the NeSmith class this season. However, tonight it was Jason Trammell who started on the front row beside King. The green waved and Trammell got a great run on the outside coming off turn two and took the lead. By lap 6 Trammell began to inch away from his challengers. King began to close in on Trammell for the lead as the laps ticked off. The night ended early for Brad Seagle as he crashed in turn 4 bringing out the caution. A couple quick cautions later the green was back out and King was all over Trammell for the lead. He stuck the nose of his machine under Trammell several times coming off turn two as they fought for the lead. Trammell hit his marks and held on for the win.

After winning the big 30 lap feature earlier, Chris Rickett started on the pole in the second feature. He took the top spot early on with the field in pursuit. The racing got intense as the leaders fought for the top spot. The #88 machine of Davis ran into trouble early on as he got some damage on an early restart and had to go to the rear after pitting. Dale Watson made a move to get past Shannon Emery and set his sights on the top two. Watson wasn’t done as he and Gary Blanken put on a show for the fans as they raced for the runner up spot. After having to come from the tail end of the pack, Davis had worked his way back into the top 5 by lap 15. A late caution on lap 16 slowed the action. Ricket held on the pick up the win and sweep the night by winning both Street Stock features.

The Limited Late Models closed out the show with Jason Welshan and Ryan King on the front row. Welshan wasted no time taking the lead as he powered off the second turn ahead of King. Jason Trammel was looking to pick up his second win of the night but his effort ended early as he slowed just a couple laps into the event. Cory Hedgecock worked his way up as he moved into the top five.  The laps ticked off and Welshan kept increasing his lead. The caution waved on lap 20 as Jason Cardwell stopped on the track. Jason Welshan went on to dominate the rest of the race picking up another feature win.
