McCarter’s late race pass nets win

Another successful season at Tennessee’s action track saw it’s conclusion in front of a packed crowd.
The first race of the night would be the 20 lap Classic Car feature. John Stevens put his #7 Classic car on the pole by setting the fastest lap time in qualifying earlier in the night. Stevens would take point on the start ahead of Shane Taylor, Shaun Sise and Chris Worsham your top five drivers. Trouble for Joshua Chesney would slowed with a flat tire on the opening lap bringing out the quick caution. Back under green the fight for the runner up spot was intense. Point leader Lee Merritt had picked his way up through the top five and into the mix for the runner up spot. An incredible display of driving by Taylor, Worsham, Sise and Merritt as they were racing hard for second behind Stevens who pulled away with the lead. Sise came into the night still having a shot at the season Championship but would pull off track late in the feature ending his Championship hopes. John Stevens would pull away to a big lead and pick up the win. Lee Merritt would be crowned the season Champion.

Next up was the always popular Modifed Street division. This one would have trouble getting started as Bobbie Petty and second place points driver Ryan Watson tangled on the opening lap. Both drivers would be done for the night. After a slow start to the race, it was Street Stock Nationals Champion David Clark who took the lead with Robbie Buchanan, Eric Hux and Chris Rickett all in the top five. Buchanan started on the outside pole but slipped back to the fourth spot early on. Rickett had found something as he worked the low line moving all the way up to the second spot. The Silver Bullett was getting closer in the rear view mirror of Clark as the laps ticked off. Coming off turn two Clark found himself slowed up by lap cars and Rickett took advantage making the move and getting the lead. Rickett would pick up the win and David Clark would clinch the track Championship.

Zach Sise would earn the pole for the Classic Car feature. Keeping him company on the front row would be Brad Seagle who clinched the season title just by starting the feature. Sise took the lead on the start with Seagle hot on his heels for the race lead. The top two put some distance on the rest of the field at first but the racing was intense all throughout the pack. Jake Whitehead and Adam Mitchell had their own battle for a spot in the top five as well. Trouble for Zach Sise as he slowed early in the race and retired for the rest of the event. With Sise out of the picture it still wasn’t an easy night for the newly crowed Champion as Seagle had his hands full with Whitehead who continue working the low line. On this night he once again had his the setup on his #73 just right as he jumped out front early on ahead of Mack McCarter, Josh Henry and Rusty Ballenger. Clay Coghlan also had a great run going as he was trying to get himself into the top five early on. Sise was setting a blistering pace and quickly found himself closing in on lap traffic. That allowed Mack McCarter in his #51 to chew into the lead Sise had built up. Coming off turn two McCarter saw and opening and powered by on the inside taking the lead away. Last years Track Champion Jody Puckett picked up his first pole of the 2018 season at 411 for the open wheel feature. Puckett, Kevin Copher, Wade Rookard, Ben Petree and Dustin Diden rounded out the top five on the start. Petree and Rookard weren’t gonna wait around before they battled it out for the third spot. Puckett had built up a small lead until it was erased by the caution flag. On the restart Rookard pounced moving up the track working the outside line. A few laps later he was up to second and began reeling in the leader. Another caution this time for the #21 of Dustin Branson. Puckett looked to have the win in the bag but Rookard got an incredible run off turn two and took the lead and the win away on the very last lap. Wayne James didn’t have the race he was looking for but he did lock up the season Championship.
