Hedgecock repeats in JT Kerr Memorial

411 Motor Speedway paid tribute to the late JT Kerr with the running of the JT Kerr Memorial.
The first race of the night was the 20 lap Classic Car feature. Lee Merritt has dominated at Volunteer Speedway with 6 wins overall. Merritt has also had a great season at 411 as he set fast time in qualifying earning the pole for the feature. The green waved and Merritt set sail ahead of Will Carey, Mac Lockhart, Chris Worsham and Shaun Sise rounding out the top five. Sise and Worsham had a great battle for position in the opening laps. As they battled it out the top two began to inch away from the rest of the pack. Carey would give chase of Merritt the second half of the race but couldn’t close the gap.

Next up was the Modified Street feature. We hadn’t seen Chris Rickett so far in 2018 but he made a big splash in his return earning the pole in qualifying. Rickett took the lead on the start but a quick caution for David Myers. After a couple of quick yellows on the start we finally got underway. Robbie Buchanan had a pretty rough crash last time we saw him at Volunteer Speedway but he was back with a strong car as he battled it out early with Wayne Rader. Rocky Ogle picked up his first win of the season a few weeks back and had another good run going as he ran second behind Chris Rickett. David Clark went for a spin in qualifying so he had to start at the rear of the field. He put on quite a show as he picked his way up through the field in search of the front. Point leader Ryan Watson wouldn’t have a good day as he pulled off track before the finish. Up front it was all Rickett who pulled away and picked up his first win of 2018.

Next up was the JT Kerr Memorial paying $4,000 to win. Cory Hedgecock set fast time earning the $500 bonus and the pole for the 40 lap A main. Hedgecock wasted no time putting his #23 on top of the scoreboard with Jensen Ford, and Greg Martin in chase. Ross White wasn’t in his usual #0 but was very fast as he moved into the third spot early on. Trouble for Jason Deal as he crashed into the turn one wall ending his night early. Pierce McCarter also had a strong run going as he worked his way up into the top five in the first half of the race. Matt Henderson and Ryan King had a great battle just outside the top five. Greg Martin lost a couple spots on the start but began hitting his stride as he closed in on the fourth spot. Rusty Ballenger has had a strong season at both 411 and Volunteer but this wasn’t his night as he slowed and pulled off track with problems. Another driver who most expected to be a serious contender was Trevor Sise but much like Ballenger he seemed to have missed the setup on his #73. Hedgecock would close in on the back of the field but other than the occasional slower car he would be on cruise control picking up his third straight JT Kerr Memorial win.

The final race of the night was the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Jed Emert set on pole for the A main with Jaylon Shannon earning his first front row start of the season at 411. Season point leader Zach Sise went for spin while running in the top five sending him to the back of the pack on the restart. Back under green and Shannon got tight coming off turn four and lost several positions slipping back to the sixth spot. It was a rough night for Chris Johnston who went for two spins resulting in his early retirement from the race. Halfway through the race Emert had stretched it out to a pretty big lead until the caution waved for Dale Page who slowed on track. Sise had worked his way back up to the sixth spot after going to the rear on lap two. Emert cruised to the win pulling away again in the closing laps.
