Henry picks up $1,000 crate payday

It was the first Dash 4 Cash of 2016 at 411 Motor Speedway with the Sportsman and Crate Late Models taking center stage. A 14.514 earned Jed Emert the pole for the Dash and he would go on to pick up the win. The green waved and it was Clyde Stanton who took the top spot ahead of Emert, last weeks winner Philip Thompson and Zach Sise. Point leader Brad Seagle qualified in the fifth position but was on the move early as he put the pressure on Sise for the fourth spot. Seagle clearly had his #31 machine hooked up as he was already up into the third spot after a handful of laps. Sise didn’t have any breathing room as he also had his hands full with Adam Mitchell. As the top three began to pull away, Seagle was still on the move as he moved past Emert and into the runner up spot. A scary crash for Kyle Cole who got up into the front-stretch fence bringing out the caution. The driver was okay but he was done for the night. Trouble would find Sise who slowed while running inside the top five bringing out the caution. Back under green and Seagle saw the opening he needed and powered past Stanton as the white flag waved and went on to pick up the win.

Up next was the 20 lap Classic Car feature and it would be Eli Keck who took control ahead of Rusty Welch and Lee Merritt. Merritt has had an incredible 2016 season so far and looked to be the car to beat once again as he pulled past Welch and into the second spot. It wouldn’t take him very long to drive by Eli Keck and into the top spot. The first caution of the night would wave for Luke Ellis who went for a spin off turn four. Back under green and the top three cars began to pull away until another caution this time for Ritchie Overholser slowed the pace. Smoke began to trail from the back of the #78 of Merritt and he pulled off track a couple laps later handing the lead over to Eli Keck. Keck would go on to pick up his first Classic Car win of 2016.

A stout field of Crate Late Models were on hand to do battle for the $1,000 payday. Cory Hedgecock set fast time in qualifying with a 14.165 second lap and went on to win his Dash 4 cash. The green waved and Hedgecock slipped up the track going into turn one allowing both Ross White and Josh Henry to go past. “The Jet” was on the move as he dove under White and took the lead coming off turn four. White also found himself going the wrong way as Hedgecock went by, working his way back up. Henry was setting such a fast pace that he found himself in lap traffic after just a handful of laps. Jesse Lowe didn’t qualify that great but was already up into third from his seventh place starting position. The caution would wave for William Overby who came to a spot off turn two. Back under green and the battle for fifth was on between Gary Crittenden and Pierce Mccarter. Jason Welshan qualified in the top five and won his Dash 4 Cash but pulled off track early with mechanical issues. Up front it was all Josh Henry who would pull away in the closing laps to pick up the big win.

The Open Wheel Modifieds made their return and brought an impressive field packed with top notch Open Wheel talent. Jeff Hamby put his #15 machine on pole with a 15.398 second lap. The green waved and it would be Logan Hickey who put his #16 on top of the leader board with Hamby and Ricky Tinch in chase. Don Adams didn’t record a lap time in qualifying but was a rocket ship early on as he was already up to the top five after just a couple laps. Terry James crashed in hotlaps and his bad luck would continue as he pulled off track early. Hambly had caught Hickey for the lead as they put distance on Billy Palmer. Hambly used the low line while Hicky was strong up top. Hickey went into turn one with a head of steam and spun his #16 machine bringing out the caution and ending his chance at a win. Adams was still moving forward as he was under the #92 of Hopper for the third spot halfway through. Logan Hickey and Philip Thompson made contact in turn four resulting in Thompson going for a spin. Jeff Hamby would hold on for the final laps and pick up the win.

The final race of the night would be the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Skimp Henry once again set fast time in qualifying with a 15.365 Dale Watson started outside the front row but spun his #11 machine in turn one collecting Jerry Hux and Jason West. Hux would be able to continue but the night was over for Watson and west. Back under green and Henry took control of the field ahead of Rocky Ogle, Jerry Hux and Tim Kilby. Ogle had a strong third place run going but slowed suddenly bringing out the caution. Back under green and TIm Kilby was up to third despite having damage. A slight trail of smoke began to follow Henry but it wouldn’t stop him from pulling away from Hux and picking up another win.
