Sise picks up 8th win

With a 14.855, Phillip Thompson set fast time in sportsman qualifying. With the top four qualifiers all under the 15 second mark, it was sure to be a very competitive 20 lap feature,The green waved and the field screamed into the first turn with Tyler Smith taking the top spot ahead of Thompson, Jed Emert and Tuesday nights winner Clyde Stanton. It wouldn’t take Thompson very long as he took the lead away from Smith only two laps in with a great pass off turn two. Jed Emert was also on the move getting past Stanton and into the third spot. Stanton had his hands full with Brad Seagle as well as the laps ticked off. Trouble would find Brandon Taylor who went for a spin in turn two slowing the pace. Taylor and Cody Brake would be done for the night early. After leading the opening lap. Tyler Smith slipped back to the back half of the top five. The top two had pulled away with Emert all over the back of Thompson for the top spot. Lap after lap Emert worked the low line but the momentum on the high line kept the #24 out front. Emert would make one last attempt on the low line but pushed up the track allowing Thompson to pick up the win.

Up next was the 20 lap Classic Car feature. Lee Merritt had a rough go of it picking up a DNF Tuesday night but was back with a vengeance as he earned the pole for the feature by winning the heat race earlier in the day. However it was point leader Eli Keck who put his #8 machine into the lead on lap one with Merritt and Ritchie Overholser in pursuit. Scott Lacy had a strong car on the night as well proven by moving himself into the third position early on. Merritt was all over the back of Keck and made the low line work coming off turn two putting himself into the lead. As the top two pulled away the battle was on between Rusty Welch and Ritchie Overholser four the fourth spot. Merritt began to check out on the field but a trail of smoke was following him. It looked like the smoke was getting worse as the race wore on but it wouldn’t stop him from pulling away to a full straight-away and pick up another win in 2016.

A stacked field of cars were on hand for the 30 lap Steelhead Late Model feature. Point leader Trevor Sise set fast time in qualifying with a 14.192 second lap. Just a tick off his time would be the #00 of Ruben Mayfield. The green waved and Mayfield rocketed off turn two into the lead ahead of Sise, Cory Hedgecock, With seven wins to his credit already Trevor Sise was on a mission to continue his dream season. Just two laps into the 30 lap event Sise powered past Mayfield and into the lead. The top five put some distance on the rest of the pack with Jason Manley closing in on Pierce McCarter for the 7th spot early on. Josh Henry didn’t record a qualifying time but had worked his way up to 12th after starting in the rear. Justin Summers started in the sixth position but pulled off track just 10 laps in with problems. Sise had already built up a huge lead but the fight was on for second as Matt Henderson had reeled in Mayfield. Sise had found himself in heavy lap traffic until a caution for Pierce McCarter slowed the pace. Back under green and the easy ride for Sise was over as Henderson had gotten past Mayfield and into the second spot. Henderson seemed to have his #17 machine hooked up on the inside while Sise worked the high line off the turn. Sise would pick his way through the slower cars in the final laps and pick up win number 8 of 2016 and stretch out his point lead.

A huge field of Street Stock cars were on hand to do battle for the 20 lap feature. Skimp Henry once again set fast time earning the pole along side Dale Watson. Henry took the lead on the start ahead of Chris Rickett, Dale Watson and Freddy Hillard. Trouble would strike early for MJ Collier as he and Marshall Banks tangled bringing out the caution. Collier would continue on but Banks was done for the night. Shannon Emery arrived late to track and wasn’t able to qualify so his #m2 machine had to start at the rear of the field. That didn’t seem to be too much of a handicap as he was already inside the top ten after just a handful of laps. Dale Watson had the pressure turned up on Rickett for the second spot just behind Henry who had began to inch away. Tim Kilby had a great run going as he and Jerry Hux fought for the fourth position until a caution slowed the action. The yellows were falling just right for Emery who had driven from 18th to 4th. Just a couple laps later he was up to third putting on a driving clinic. It looked like Skimp Henry was on his way to another win but tagged the turn two wall hard with just 5 laps left ending his night. With Henry out that haned the lead over to Chris Rickett who would hold off Shannon Emery for the final laps to pick up the win.
