Sise makes it back-to-back wins

With the sun scorching down, over 60 of the best drivers around and a packed grandstands it was a night to remember at Tennessee’s action track.
Jed Emert would earn the pole for the 20 lap Sportsman feature turning in a 15.126 second lap. Emert would take the top spot as the green waved ahead of Kip Sawyer and Clyde Stanton who held onto the third spot in the opening lap. Bradley Lewelling was on the move from the word go as he was picking them up and putting them down from his fifth place starting position. The #101 was a bullet as he moved from fifth all the way up to the second spot in just a handful of laps. Point leader Kyle Courtney had has work cut out for him after qualifying back in the ninth spot but had the pressure turned up on Brad Seagle early on. Trouble would find Michael Courtney as he crashed in turn four bringing out the caution. Courtney would have heavy front end damage on his #C11 machine and was done for the evening. Back under green and Lewelling took a shot down low under Emert off turn two but the momentum from the high line kept the #98 out front. Emert would pull away in the closing laps to pick up the win.

June25_0622Thomas Clark would earn the pole for the 20 lap Mini Stock feature after winning his heat race earlier in the day. Picking up where he left off, Clark took the top spot as the green waved with Jamie James and Joe Myers in chase. David Darden showed some strength early on as he powered past Myers putting himself into third. John Byers started in the rear but had already moved himself up into third early on moving past Darden. A caution for Anthony Dixon and Ballie Lowe slowed the pace a lap later. Back under green and it was an amazing battle for the lead as Clark, Byers and Jamie James went three wide down the back for the top spot. However the strong run James had hit a speed bump as he spun from the second spot bringing out the caution once again. Byers had pulled up on the back bumper of the #41 machine but couldn’t seem to find the opening he needed to get past. Clark would lead all the way to lap 18 when he pushed up the track in turn one allowing Byers to slip by and pick up the win.

A 14.313 earned Trevor Sise the pole for the 25 lap $1,000 to win Steelhead Late Model feature. Sise has been the man to beat so far in the 2016 season and this was no exception as he rocketed off turn two with the lead over Cardwell and Barrett Lowe. The battle of the race was between Lowe and Josh Henry for the third spot as the Newport, TN native wasn’t giving Lowe and breathing room. As Sise pulled away it was Mitchell Childress moving past Drew Kennedy to gain a spot in the back half of the top ten. Lowe had gotten away from Henry and has his sights set on Cardwell as the two raced for the runner up spot. Henry had his hands full with Greg Estes for fourth until a caution for Layne Clifton slowed the pace. Cardwell knew if he wanted the top spot he was gonna have to strike fast and he dove low under Sise on the restart but had had to fall in line behind. The battle between Henry and Estes would continue all the way to the finish with Estes eventually getting past and closing in on Lowe for the third spot. Trevor Sise was on cruise control as he ran away to another win.

Up next was the 20 lap Classic Car feature. After a very exciting heat race earlier in the day the fans knew they were gonna be in for a barn burner and it did not disappoint. Lee Merritt took the lead after a quick caution on the start with Adam Pressley on his back bumper just like in the heat race. A quick caution for Chris Nix slowed the pace early on but Pressley once again was all over the back of the leader when the green came back out. Halfway through the 20 lap event and the top two had pulled away from everyone until a caution for Scott Lacy who lost an engine in turn four slowed the pace. Pressley had been all over the lead but had issues and pulled off the track late in the race. Merritt would pull away in the final laps and pick up the win.

A 14.887 second lap would get Drew Kennedy the pole for the Crate feature. Kennedy was the only car under the 15 second bracket in qualifying. The action was intense from the get go as Kennedy got loose coming off turn two on the opening lap allowed Bryson Dennis to take the lead. It wouldn’t last very long however as Pierce McCarter was a rocket ship taking over the top spot early on. After his top five finish in the Steelhead feature earlier, Josh Henry was working on another strong run this time under Kennedy for third. Gary Crittenden made his way around Danny Yoder and took a position away working his way up through the field. As the laps ticked off Josh Henry had closed in on the leader using the low line. McCarter and Henry had pulled away from the battle between Kennedy and Dennis for third. McCarter would find himself in some lap traffic in the closing laps wouldn’t have any issues negotiating his way through them. Henry would make a late charge for the lead but wouldn’t be able to do it.

A $200 bounty was on the head of Skimp Henry for the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Henry didn’t seem to be too worried about it though as he set fast time in qualifying with a 15.824 lap being the only car under the 16 second bracket. With the bounty Henry would not have to start at the rear of the field this time and took the top spot ahead of Chris Rickett and Dale Watson. The night would come to an early end for Scott Atkins who pulled off track early on. Jerry Hux was hot on the heels of Watson as the two raced for third behind Henry and Rickett. A caution for MJ Collier would slow the pace erasing the lead Henry had built up. On the restart Watson took a look on the inside of Rickett for the runner up spot but couldn’t get it done. Tim Kilby and MJ Collier would tangle late in the race bringing out the caution again. The caution would be called on Kilby and since that was his second, he was done for the night. Rickett got a great run with just just two laps left off turn two with his sights on Herny but pushed up off turn four allowing Henry to get away and pick up his 10th win of 2016.
