Sise picks up Steel Head win

It was another picture perfect day with endless amounts of sun over Tennessee’s Action Track. Kyle Courtney set fast time in Sportsman qualifying with a 15.218 second lap. Keeping him company on the front row would be his points rival Brad Seagle. The green waved and Seagle used the high line off turn two to power into the top spot ahead of Courtney, Zach Sise and Floyd Self. Self would have a bit of a push off turn two opening the door for Fireball Roberts to get inside as the two battled inside the top five early on. The first caution of the race would wave for Kyle Cole who looped his #18 machine in turn two slowing the pace. Courtney was driving in deep trying to get the top spot but drove it in too deep going into turn one spinning and collecting the leader Seagle in the process. The caution would be called on Courtney who had to restart from the tail of the field. Clyde Stanton had slipped back a little in the opening laps but was on the move as he took the third spot away from Zach Sise. Seagle was running away with the lead until a debris caution slowed the field putting everyone back in his rear view. It wouldn’t change the outcome as the #31 pulled away again in the final laps to pick up the win.

Up next was the 20 lap Mini Stock feature. Steve Owens JR would jump out to the lead in the opening lap but a caution for Tommy Metler would slow the pace quickly. John Byers has dominated the 2016 season so far and it looked like he was picking up where he left off as he quickly drove past the field and into the top spot on the restart. Point leader Thomas Clark wasn’t gonna let the #83 drive away as he moved himself in the runner up spot. The caution would wave again for Anthony Dixon who spun in turn two. Back under green and it was David Darden putting the pressure on Steve Owens Jr for the third spot as the laps ticked off. After having a top five run earlier in the race, Jesse Hickman would pull off the track and retire for the night. Byers would once again be on cruise control and pick up another win.

Tevor Sise once again set quick time in Late Model qualifying turning in a blistering 14.222 second lap. With 25 laps on the to do list it would be Chris Barton who put his #144 machine on point with Sise and Adam Beeler in chase. Jason Cardwell qualified fifth but was looking low on Josh Henry for position in the early laps. A scary crash for Shannon Smith would bring out the red flag. Going into turn one, Smith got into the outside wall and flipped his #20. The driver would be okay but he would be done for the night. After a long cleanup we went back green with Cardwell once again turning up the heat on on The Boo Man for the third spot. Sise wasn’t giving Barton any breathing room as the two were riding the cushion in turns one and two with no room for error. Trouble for Danny Yoder who went up in smoke once again bringing out the caution and setting up a restart. Sise had been hounding the leader every lap just waiting on an opening. That time would come as Barton over drove turn one and pushed up the track. That was all Sise needed as he powered by and into the lead. No more issues as he would pull away to a huge lead and pick up the win.

A returning Adam Engel would jump out to the lead of the 20 lap Classic Car feature ahead of Adam Pressley and Eli Keck. After starting back in the sixth position, Lee Merritt was picking them up and putting them down moving up inside the top four in the opening laps. Rusty Welch would spin bringing out the first caution of the night. Adam Pressley was never more than a car length off the back bumper of the leader the entire race. Merritt was in a tough battle with Eli Keck but suddenly slowed and pulled off the track. You could throw a blanket over the top four as no one was able to pull away. Keck began to reel in Pressley who was still working over the lead. Engel would hold on to pick up the win in an incredible race.

After picking up the win last weekend, Matt Henderson once again set fast time in Crate Late Model qualifying with a 14.676 lap time. That wouldn’t be enough to get him the lead however as Josh Henry would take the top spot as the green waved over the 25 lap feature. Pierce McCarter started in the fifth position but wasn’t working by the hour as he quickly was all over Justin Summers for position. Greg Husky had a great third place run going but a trail of smoke began to come from the back of his #32 machine as the race wore on. It wouldn’t take very long to come into play as Husky slowed on the back stretch collecting Justin Summers in the process. Back under green and Henderson was going downstairs in turn one getting a great run off the turn under Henry for the top spot. The two drivers would have some breathing room as they were pulling away from the rest of the pack as the laps ticked off. McCarter had the third spot but has his hands full with Greg Martin who wanted his position. Henry would hold off a late charge by Henderson to pick up the win.

Skimp Henry set fast time in Street Stock qualifying but because of winning three consecutive races had to start at the rear of the field. After a down week, the Street Stock division had a great rebound with an impressive car count. One of the pre race favorites to win, Rocky Ogle had trouble on the first lap as he spun in turn four collecting Kurt Owens. Owens would continue on with slight nose damage but the night was over for Ogle. Back under green and it was Dale Watson who took control with Jerry Hux in his tire tracks. Starting in the back wasn’t much of a problem for Skimp as he drove past Owens and into the fourth spot. A debris caution would slow the pace early on and on the restart Henry pounced on the leaders and took the top spot away. After a quick caution for debris the green waved again and Jerry Hux made a strong power move to get past Watson and set his sights on the leader. Smoke had started to trail the #14 of Owens and it continued to get worse and worse throughout the race. Owens would go up in smoke a few laps later ending his night. Henry would pull away in the final laps to score another win in his already incredible season.
