Hedgecock, Henderson pick up wins

After last weekend’s washout, mother nature more than made up for it with endless amounts of sunshine and scorching hot weather. Six classes of action on the schedule with the best drivers and fans around.
Jed Emert set fast time in Sportsman qualifying earning the top spot for the 20 lap feature with a 14.715 lap time. Emert would take the lead as the green waved putting his #98 machine on point ahead of Kyle Courtney, Zach Sise and Clyde Stanton. Sise was on go early as he was putting the pressure on Courtney for the runner up spot in the opening laps. The first caution of the night waved for Chris Johnson who looped his #c9 machine in turn two. Under the caution Clyde Stanton would also come to a stop with some sort of mechanical problem. Back under green and Terry Poore was on the move taking over the fourth spot and setting his sights on the leaders. Trouble would find Zach Sise several times throughout the race as he spun once and then got caught up with Kyle Courtney later on. Heavy right rear damage would cause the youngster to have to retire early. The battle wasn’t over for second as last weeks winner Brad Seagle worked his way past Poore with just a couple laps left. Up front it was all Emert who cruised to the win.

Up next was the 20 lap Mini Stock feature. A rare opportunity to qualify for all divisions on this night giving every driver a chance to showcase themselves. A 17.566 lap time was good enough to earn John Byers the pole for the feature but since he had won back to back races he had to start his #83 in the third spot. Problems on the initial start for Justin Woodard delayed the start of the race. Woodard wouldn’t be able to continue and had to retire before completing a single lap. The green waved again and Byers dove into turn one and by the time they got off turn two he had already taken the top spot ahead of Thomas Clark and Tommy Metler. Anthony Dixon had gotten himself up into the top five but went for a spin early on derailing his drive at least temporarily. Back under green and Metler was working the low line trying to wrestle the runner up spot away from Clark as the laps ticked off. No issues for John Byers as he pulled away and cruised to another win.

Point leader Trevor Sise set fast time in Late Model qualifying but just like in the previous race with Byers, had to start from the second row. Chaos showed it’s ugly mug on the very first lap with Danny Yoder and Doug Smith tangling in turn two. Smith would be able to continue but the night was over early for Yoder who was pushed into the infield. The green waved and Cory Hedgecock powered into the top spot ahead of Ruben Mayfield and Josh Henry. Another quick caution this time for John Adams slowed the pace once again. The yellow was gone but the action wasn’t as Trevor Sise and Josh Henry swapped the third position on the start putting on a great show for the fans. Up front Hedgecock didn’t have any breathing room as Mayfield was all over him for the lead. The top two were pulling away until a spin by Jason Cardwell brought out the caution. The green waved and Sise, got a run inside Adam Beeler but the two would make contact sending Beeler down into the infield bringing out the caution. Beeler would be none to happy and rammed Sise under caution resulting in both drivers going to the pits early. Hedgeock would hold off Mayfield in the closing laps to pick up the win.

A 17.780 earned Adam Pressley the pole for the 20 lap Classic Car feature. Pressley would assume command of the field on the start ahead of Ritchie Overholser and Lee Merritt. The classic guys always put on a great show so of course tonight was no exception. Coming down the backstretch the top three went three wide for the lead making everyone in attendance hold their breath. Lee Merritt would come out with the lead looking for his third straight win. Adam Pressley had the second spot but bounced off the turn four wall early on. Merritt was running away from the pack until a caution put everyone back on his rear bumper. With Pressley damaged Overholser saw that as his shot and moved into the runner up spot. Eli Keck had a strong top five run going but a trail of fluid poured from his machine ending his night and bringing out a lengthy red flag for cleanup. No issues for Merritt who pulled away again in the final laps to score another win.

1: #78 Lee Merritt
2: #9 Ritchie Overholser
3: #07 Bobby Pressley
4: #18 Rusty Welch
5: #24 Scott Lacy
6: #0 Chris Nix
7: #8 Eli Keck

Matt Henderson set fast time in Crate qualifying with a 14. 421 in his #H2 machine. Keeping him Company on the front row would be the Steelhead Late Model winner from earlier in the night, Cory Hedgeock. Henderson took the lead on the green ahead of of Hedgecock, Justin Summers and Josh Henry. Greg Martin had the heat turned up on Summers for the third spot in the opening laps. After a rough night earlier in the Steelhead feature, Jason Cardwell was looking for a good run as he worked over Greg Husky for the sixth position. As Henderson began to inch away from the pack, Henry had closed in on second. However the Newport, TN native had his hands full with Greg Martin at the same time. The field got strung out a little as the laps ticked away. Husky would have problems getting around the slower car of John Owenby as the two made contact late in the race. After the initial start Henderson was never really challenged and he drove away to the win.

Skimp Henry set fast time in Street Stock qualifying with a 15. 450 lap ahead of Jeff McLemore. Henry would have to start at the rear because of multiple wins in a row. However this wouldn’t be much of a challenge for Henry as he took the lead on lap two. Henry would lead the rest of the way and pick up the win.
1: #25 Skimp Henry
2: ‪#‎J3‬ Jeff McLemore
3: #20 Scott Atkins
