Elliott scores $1,000 crate win

On a day with rain all around it looked as if Mother Nature was gonna wash out the action but after some hard work from the track crew it was a great night of race in front of a large crowd.
First of the six features on the schedule would be the 20 lap Sportsman feature. With a 14.888 second lap in qualifying, Jed Emert would earn the pole with Brad Seagle keeping him company. After a couple hiccups on the initial start, Emert would put his #98 machine into the lead ahead of Seagle, Zach Sise and Clyde Stanton. Point leader Kyle Courtney started outside the top five but was up to fourth early on. Emert had his car on a rail as he began to inch away from the pack as the early laps ticked away. Terry Poore was also on the move early as he was following in Courtney’s tire tracks up through into the top four. It looked like Emert was gonna run away with the lead but he tangled with a lap car slowing his pace and turning the lead over to Brad Seagle. Halfway through and Zach Sise had closed the gap on the leader. Just two laps later and a run on the inside propelled the youngster into the lead. After dominating early on and tangling with a lap car, Emert had reeled in Seagle for the runner up spot. With 4 laps left he would make the pass but ran out of laps as Zach Sise picked up the win.

The mini stock division had put on some incredible races the past several weeks and tonight looked to be no different. The defending Mini Stock Champion John Byers would start row one with last week’s winner Thomas Clark. Byers would jump into the lead on the start of the 20 lap feature with Clark, Tommy Metler and Steve Owens Jr in chase. Clark had his car tuned up and got a strong run on the outside of the five time winner as the two drag raced into turn three for the lead. After just a couple laps the top give drivers had already separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Byers had no breathing room early as as Clark was literally on his back bumper. However as the laps ticked away the #83 seemed to get faster and faster with him putting space between the top three cars. Byers would run away with the lead the second half of the race to pick up another win.

Up next was the 25 lap Late Model feature. Jason Cardwell came into the night with back to back wins but a 14.438 earned Trevor Sise the pole. Sise would take the top spot immediately as the green waved with Josh Henry and Cardwell battling it out for the second spot. The action was intense throughout the pack as Eddie King Jr and Dakotah Knuckles had a hard fought battle for the fourth spot. With the leader inching away, Henry had his hands full with Cardwell who wanted his runner up spot. A caution on lap five for Justin Summers would slow the pace putting everyone back into the mix. Cardwell saw his chance on the start and pounced on Henry taking away the second spot. One of the best battles of the race was between Dakotah Kunckles, and Chris Barton as they traded position and some paint several times in the race. 16 laps in and it was all Trevor Sise who was putting on a driving clinic. Josh Henry wasn’t done putting pressure on Cardwell for second but that was well behind the #73 who cruised to the win.

Up next was the 20 lap Classic Car feature. Everyone knows the Classic guys put on an amazing show week after week and tonight was definitely no exception as it was a wild back and fourth battle from the beginning to the end. The race started with Eli Keck taking the top spot ahead of Lee Merritt and Michael Maiden who held down third position. A quick caution for the stalled car of Rusty Welch slowed the pace just two laps in. Justin Oveton and Joe Keck have had some great races in the 2016 season but tonight it seemed like the two couldn’t get away from one another as they tangled on the restart bringing out the caution. Despite their issues both drivers would make their way into the fight for the lead as Lee Merritt had taken over the top spot. Merritt wouldn’t have any breathing room as he had all he could handle from Overton and Keck. Coming off turn four Keck saw an opening and took them three wide down the backstretch for the lead. Somehow all three would make it out of the fight pointed in the right direction putting on an incredible display of car control for the fans in attendance. Overton had began to use the high line working the outside trying to wrestle the lead away. A caution with four laps left set up a shootout to the finish. No one was sitting as the top three once again waged way on one another for the win. Overton would get a great run off turn four but came up just short of taking the win.
1: #96 Lee Merritt
2: #98 Justin Overton
3: #78 Joe Keck
4: #0 Chris Nix
5: #18 Rusty Welch
6: #9 Richie Overholser
7: #00 Jordan Yeary
8: #8 Eli Keck

A 14.711 second qualifying lap was what it took to get Jimmy Elliott the pole for the 20 lap Crate Late Model feature. This one would take several attempts to get going but once it did Elliott took the lead with Ross White and double duty Jason Cardwell in pursuit. Coming off a second place run in the Steelhead Late Models, Cardwell was hot on White’s heels for second early on in the feature. It wasn’t just the top three in combat as Josh Henry had all he could handle from Marty Calloway in the opening laps. Elliott began to pull away but the fight between the second and third place races wasn’t gonna go away anytime soon. Barry Anderson was on the move as well as he was working over Kip Sawyer for position. After working him over for several laps Cardwell was finally able to clear White with an amazing slide job coming off turn two. That’s as far as he would be able to advance as it was all Jimmy Elliott who cruised to the win.

The final event of the night would be the 20 lap Street Stock feature. 15.718 would be enough to earn Skimp Henry another pole as he looked to stretch out his point lead he gained after last weekend. Henry would take control of the race early on once again with Rocky Ogle, Dale Watson and newcomer Jeremy Howard in his tire tracks. Watson wasn’t wasting any time as he was all over Ogle for the runner up spot as soon as the race went green. Trouble would find Kaleb Trent early on as he got into the turn two wall and brought out the caution. Back under green and we saw Watson and Ogle pick up their battle for second swapping some paint down the front stretch. Seven laps in and it was the #11 moving into second behind Henry who had pulled away to a somewhat comfortable lead but a caution for MJ Collier would change all that. Watson would dive under the leader coming off turn two but the momentum on the outside would keep Henry in the lead. Rocky Ogle had a strong run going but had issue when he slowed on the track bringing out the yellow. Henry would pull away in the final laps to pick up another win in his already incredible season.
