Sise dominates for late model win

After several weeks of cold weather it was finally a warm picture perfect day for racing at Tennessee’s action track.

The first of 5 features on the night was the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Zach Sise set fast time in qualifying with a 14.515 but made heavy contact with the turn two wall. As a result the pole sitter would not be able to start the race. With Sise sidelined, that gave the front row to point leader Kyle Courtney and Clyde Stanton. The green waved and Stanton put his #c11 mahine into the top spot ahead of Courtney and Chris Beeler. The caution would wave quickly however as Josh Sneed slowed just two laps in. Brad Seagle had to start at the rear after problems in qualifying but quickly moved up through the pack and into the top five. Six laps in and the top two were putting some real-estate between themselves and the third place car of Chris Beeler but another caution for Chris Coffey slowed the pace. Halfway through and Courtney was all over the back of the leader and on lap 13 made his move going into turn three taking the lead away. On lap 14 trouble found Corey Summers who flipped on the backstretch. The driver would be okay but his car was heavily damaged. Courtney would hold on the final seven laps and pick up another win.

After winning four consecutive feature races John Byers had to start the 20 lap Mini Stock feature at the rear. After a couple quick cautions Steve Owens Jr would take command of the 10 car field ahead of Joe Myers and Mitchell Fox. The caution waved again early on for Fox who spun collecting Tommy Metler. Bother drivers would continue on but Fox had to restart from the back. Just three laps in and Byers was already in the top three behind Owens Jr and Myers. One lap later it was the #83 moving to the top spot on the scoreboard. The fight was intense between Myers, Owens and Metler for the second spot as the three ran bumper to bumper nearly the entire race. The night would come to an early end for Samuel Fox who made significant contact with the turn two exit wall ending his night. Byers would run away from everyone once again to score his incredible fifth straight win.

The always exciting Classic Car feature was up next with Justin Overton and Ritchie Overholser starting on the front row. Overton would take the lead on the start ahead of Overholser, Pressley and Chris Evans. The battle for second was on as Pressley had found the line his #07 machine needed to go forward. On lap seven the two made contact coming off turn two with Pressley moving into the runner up spot past Overholser. It wasn’t over yet as the two tangled again in turn three going for a spin collecting Chris Evans in the process. Overholser would continue but the race was over for Evans and Pressley. Turn two seemed to be the trouble spot on the night as it claimed another victim on lap 10 as Scott Lacy got into the safety tire on track exit. Overton would pull away in the final laps to pick up another win.

A blistering 13.745 second lap time in qualifying earned Trevor Sise the pole for the 30 lap Late Model feature. Sise was the only car to go under 14 seconds. The green waved over the 13 car field with Sise taking control ahead of Hedgecock, Dakotah Knuckles, Chris Barton and Jason Cardwell. After picking up the win last week, Jason Welshan had his work cut out for him as he battled with Layne Clifton for the 6th spot early on. The top three were already driving away from the rest of the pack with Sise showing the way. The race came to an early end for Scott Shelton who pulled off the track just 10 laps in. Lap 14 and Jason Cardwell who had been running top five pulled off track with apparent mechanical issues on his #07 machine. With no caution flag in site, Clifton had worked his way up to the back bumper of outside pole sitter Chris Barton. Welshan had been working on a top five spot but began slipping back into the clutches of Jason Trammell in the second half of the race. Up front Sise picked his way through slower traffic perfectly and picked up a dominating win.

The final event of the night would be the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Skimp Henry set fast time in qialifying with a 15.374 lap time. However since he had one two consecutive races he had to start his #25 machine on row two. With Henry in third that gave the front row to Tracy Wolfe and Jeff McLemore. The green waved and it didn’t take Henry long as he was already in the lead after just one lap ahead of McLemore, Wolfe and Scott Atkins but the caution waved quickly on lap three for Randy Frasvre. Tracy McPeak was on the move as he was battling it out with Tracy Wolfe for the third spot early on. Another caution for Dalton King slowed the pace earasing Henry’s lead. Going into turn three Tim Kilby made a pass on Wolfe but lost control of his #T11 machine collecting Tracy Wolfe. Both cars were pretty heavily damaged and had to retire for the night. It was another flawless night for Skimp Henry who once again cruised to the victory.
