Sise returns to victory lane

The air may have been chilly but the racing was red hot as fans poured into Tennessee’s Action Track for another great night of racing.
Youngster Zach Sise turned a 14.448 second lap in qualifying and that was enough to earn him the top spot for the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Keeping him company on the front row was last weeks first time winner Jed Emert. The green in the air and it was a race off turn two with Sise leading the initial lap. It didn’t take long for the first caution to wave on lap 2 for Chris Johnson who spun. Back under green and point leader Kyle Courtney dove under Emert to take the runner up spot but had to fall back in line. The battle was also on for 5th with Brad Seagle slipping by Wayne Rader and moving his way up into the top 5. Up front Sise had started to inch away but it all came to an end as his #9 machine went up in smoke. With Sise out of the race that handed the lead over to Courtney who had passed Emert for the then second position the previous lap. Clyde Stanton also had a strong run going as he would fight it out with Emery in the closing laps for the runner up spot. The laps ticked off and Courtney pulled away to pick up the win.

Skimp Henry would make his debut at 411 Motor Speedway in 2016 and did so in impressive fashion by setting quick time in qualifying with a 15.241. That incredible lap earned him the pole by over a full second over the closest qualifier. Henry would rocket out to the lead with the green waving ahead of Dale Watson and Lee Merritt who held onto the third spot. Duke Lowe was on the move as he looked under Bo Allison and made the pass for 4th on lap five just behind the top three. With just a handful of laps on the board Henry had already drove away to a full straightaway lead over Watson and Merritt. With the leader getting smaller and smaller in his windshield Watson had his hands full of Merritt who was looking to wrestle the runner up spot away from the former track champion. The night would come to an early end for Tracy Wolfe who lost a tire in turn four and had to take the long slow ride on the hook out of the track. On the restart Allison would dive deep into turn one but pushed up into Lee Merritt sending the #14 car spinning. The caution would be called on Allison who had to go to the rear. The tempers seemed to be flaring between the two as they got together once again this time sending Allison into the pits and retired for the night. It was all Henry up front and he cruised to a dominating win.

The defending Mini Stock Champion John Byers had won two in a row coming into the nights program and looked to be shooting for the third as he won the heat racing earning him his familiar pole position for the 20 lap Mini Stock feature. Byers would once again take the lead with the green in the air ahead of Shannon Raley and Tommy Metler. The battle of the race just might have between Thomas Clark and Steve Owens JR who fought for the third spot early on. The caution waved on lap 6 for Samuel Fox and Jesse Hickman slowing the pace. Clark was picking them up and putting them down as he powered past Metler and into the 4th spot. Second through fifth were under a blanket virtually the entire race putting on a great show for the fans. Coming off turn two on the last lap Raley got up on the cushion and made hard contact with the turn two wall and smacked the backstretch wall going up in the air. Thankfully the driver would be okay but his car was heavily damaged.

Adam Pressley and Chris Evans would lead us to green for the 20 lap Classic Car feature. Pressley took the top spot with a great run off turn two with Evans, Overton and Rusty Welch in chase. Overton picked up the win last week in impressive fashion but he had to put his work boots on this week. Just a couple laps in and he had moved into second and had his sights set on the leader. It didn’t take the defending Classic Car Champion long to run down the leader but Pressley was not gonna roll over and give it up easy. Lap after lap Overton looked on the inside coming off the turn but the momentum on the high line kept him at bay. Just past halfway and the top two were a full straight ahead of Chris Evans who had his own battle going on with Rusty Welch. With the white in the air, only one lap stood between one of the two drivers as the raced down the backstretch. Coming off turn four for the final time Overton got a great bite off the turn and inched out Pressley at the line in a photo finish.

The Dwarf Cars made their much anticipated return with Wesley Jones picking up right where he left off last time out. Jones took the lead on the start but this one would be filled with cautions the first of which was between Jerrett McGure and James Underwood. Just three laps in and Matthew Bohannon was a man on the move as he took the third spot away. The pace would be slowed once again for Walter Walsh who went for a spin. With his deficit erased on the leader, Bohannon immediately put the pressure on the leader as the laps ticked away. Eddie Brown had a strong third place run going but smoke began to come from his machine and he had a visible loss of power as the race continued. After working the leader over for several laps Bohannon finally made the move and took the top spot away from Jones. Bohannon would hold on for the rest of the laps and pick up the win.

The final event of the night would be the 30 lap Late Model feature. Trevor Sise put down a blistering 14.125 second lap in qualifying earning the front row with Jason Cardwell. After a false start the race got underway with Sise taking the lead ahead of Cardwell, Eddie King Jr and Jesse Lowe. Lowe was already working over King in the early laps as the #5 machine seemed to be hooked up. Current point leader Josh Henry had to start a littler further back this time out but was working over Jake Henry early on. The strong second place run for Cardwell hit a roadblock on lap six as the 2015 Late Model Champion went for a spin in turn one. On the restart it was King who looked low under Lowe but had to fall back in line. Trouble would find Chad Ogle and Byrson Dennis as the two tangled and spun down into the infield bringing out the caution. Up front it was all Trevor Sise as he pulled away by a full straight the second half of the race and cruised to the win.
