Beeler returns to victory lane

If we’ve learned one thing it’s not to listen to the weather forecasts. On a day that was originally supposed to see heavy rain, the fans packed the 411 motor speedway and they were in for a treat.
First up on tap was the 20 lap Sportsman division. Terry Poore set a blistering lap of 14.852 seconds to earn the pole. Along side him with a 14.922 second lap was Jesse Helton in the #28 machine. The green waved and Poore powered out to the lead but the pace was quickly slowed after Jimmy Calloway spun dropping fluid on the track bring out the caution. David Kerr got some damage on the nose but would be able to continue on but the night was over for Calloway. Back under green and Coffey moved past Jesse Helton and took over the runner up spot. Long time racer Patrick Duggan looked fast early as he moved into the third position. Up front Coffey turned up the heat on Poore and coming off turn number four Poore pushed up the track allowing Coffey to take over the lead on lap number five. The yellow flag would wave again on lap number six for an accident between Barry Duncan and Cody Brake. Aside from a little sheet medal damage both would be able to continue on. With the yellow lifted Duggan took a look inside Poore for second coming of turn number two but would have to fall back in line. By lap fourteen it looked like Coffey had things in control as he had pulled out to nearly a half straight-away lead. Coming on turn number two, with just three laps left Coffey went to put a lap on Cody Brake. The two collided and that allowed Poore to go by Coffey and back into the lead. Poore would hold on for the final two laps and pick up the win.

After winning the heat race earlier in the day, the 2014 Street Stock Champion Dale Watson earned the pole for the 20 lap feature. Keeping him company on row number one was the 2013 Champion David Price. The green flag flew over the field and Watson took off with the lead. Adam Engel took over the third spot in the opening laps. With just five laps on the scoreboard Watson began to inch away from the field. The fight was on for second with Engel all over the back bumper of Price. Trouble showed it ugly face as Price lost an engine going into turn three and made hard contact with the outside wall. The driver would be okay but his race was over. Points leader Tracy Wolfe took a look inside Engel on the restart. The strong run came to a sudden end for Engel as he slowed with just two laps left. Up front it was all Watson who cruised to the victory.

Michael Courtney and John Byers have dominated the Mini Stock division the past couple seasons. They would both once again start on the front row in a battle of the heavyweights. Byers took the early advantage and showed the way the first handful of laps. Trouble would find him however as he pulled off the track after just five laps. That would hand the lead over to Courtney who quickly pulled away from the pack. Just past half-way he had stretched it out to a full half track lead over second place Townsend. Chris Griffin and Shannon Raley fought hard for the third spot with twelve laps on the scoreboard. Once again a front runner would have issues as Raley slowed coming to the white flag. Courtney had lapped up to the third place car when the checkerd flag waved.

The final event of the night would be the 30 lap Late Model feature. Adam Beeler set fast time in qualifying with a 13.901 second lap. He was the only car to break into the 13 second bracket. Josh “The Jet” Henry was second fastest clocking in at a 14.001 lap time. The green didn’t last long as points leader Brad Seagle had issues on the very first lap of the race. Henry jumped out front on the restart with Beeler hot on his heels. Jason Cardwell flexed his muscles early on taking a look outside Manley. He would have to fall back in line as they chased Henry. Justin Summers also wanted to move forward and tried to take the eighth spot away from Layne Clifton. On lap number six, Beeler made his move and took the lead away from Henry. Just four laps later Manley would also move past sending Henry back to the third spot. With a win already under his belt a few weeks ago, Manley turned up the heat on Beeler for the top spot. By lap sixteen the top two had put distance between themselves and Henry. The night came to an end for Ross White who slowed on lap twenty-three. Clifton also wouldn’t see the finish after pulling off the track with just four laps left. Cardwell took one last look under Henry coming off turn two but had to settle for fourth. Up front Beeler held off a hard charging Manley to pick up his first win of 2015.
