Sise goes flag-to-flag for late model victory

The street stock class would open the Easter Weekend racing at Tennessee’s action track with a 20 lap feature. Fresh off a runner up finish a few weeks back, Charles Devine set fast time in qualifying with Tracy Wolfe on the front row. Devine wasted no time jumping out into the lead with Wolfe and Banks in chase. After just four laps Devine had pulled out to a several car length lead. However Wolfe would find his preferred line and by lap 8 he began closing the gap on the race lead. Just three laps later Wolfe would look inside for the lead but Devine powered off turn two and maintained the top spot. It looked like Devine might be on his way but a broken transmission on lap fourteen would end his night. Wolfe would take over the top spot and go on to victory lane.

Coming off last Weekend’s race, Wayne Rader had all eyes on him to see if he could pick up another win in the Sportsman feature. Rader and David Kerr led the pack into the turn one on the green flag. Rader would fall in line behind Kerr in the early laps with Rex Coffey right in their tire tracks. As the laps began to tick off the scoreboard, Terry Poore began trying to work his way into the top five. After just five laps he was working on securing the fourth place spot. A caution for Lee Merritt slowed the pace and allowed everyone to catch their breath. On the restart Coffey would make his move past Rader and into the second position behind Kerr. Kerr was steady as a rock out front hitting his marks perfectly but the battle for second was intense with Coffey and Rader fighting furiously for it. When lap eleven came around Rader was all over the back of Coffey. The race was slowed again on lap eighteen setting up a green white checker finish. Knowing this was his last shot Rader dove under Kerr in turn one but the momentum of the outside line propelled Kerr back into the lead and on to the victory.

John Byers has dominated the Mini Stock division so far in 2015 and tonight looked to be no different. However it was Chris Griffin who set fast time in qualifying with Byers beside him for the 20 lap feature. Like a rocket ship Byers dropped the hammer and immediately pulled away from the field. After just five laps he had stretched his lead out to half a straight.  Byers may have had the lead in hand but the battle for second was anything but a sure thing. Alex Squares was running in the fourth spot but the seas parted coming off the turn and his pulled off an amazing three wide pass to take over the runner up spot. Up front it was all Byers as he picked up another win.

Trevor sise set fast time in qualifying for the late models being the only car under the 15 second mark. He would be accompanied on the front row by 2014 NeSmith champion Ryan King. After a couple quick cautions on the start Sise would take command of the race with King and Mike “The Milkman” Weeks in chase. Former track champion Rusty Ballenger wasn’t about to let the top three settle it amongst themselves as he moved past Weeks into the third spot. Just five laps in and Sise was setting a blistering pace with his #73 machine screaming around the 3/8 mile 411 Motor Speedway. Another caution on lap six slowed the pace and erased Sise’s lead. When you only have 30 laps to get it done you have to make your move fast. Weeks did just that and put the pressure on King for position. The battle of the race was between Weeks and King as they raced door to door electrifying the crowd. Two amazing drivers waging war but never taking each other out gave the fans more than their money’s worth. Eventually Weeks would prevail with King slipping back a couple spots in the later laps. Layne Clifton started back in the seventh spot but he threw his name in the mix taking a look outside King off turn two. Ballenger had the second spot but “The Milk Man” was on a mission and on lap twenty-two he took over second. Weeks closed the gap on the leader in the closing laps but it would be Sise who drove into victory lane.
