Cory Hedgecock becomes the 7th different winner of the Steel Head National

The 2013 season has concluded at the 411 Motor Speedway, and it closed with a bang! The 7th Annual Steel Head National featured a $3,000-to-win 40-lap feature event. All other divisions were for $1,000-to-win. The action was fast and furious. Starting off the night was Mini Stock where Marty Phillips took the win. Next on the speedway was Sportsman, where Heath Alvey would collect the win. Next would be Street Stock, where it was Jerry Hux claiming the win. And rounding out the program was the 7th Annual Steel Head National, where Cory Hedgecock became the 7th different winner!

Well fans, that concludes the racing season here at 411 Motor Speedway. We want to thank all our wonderful sponsors, our wonderful staff members, the best fans in the area, and all the drivers who competed with us this season. We will host the 3rd Annual Hangover on January 1st, 2014, so mark your calendars now for that race! The 2014 Schedule, Rules, and Divisions will be announced on November 18th, so stay tuned! We can say there will be 5 weekly classes racing!

Mini Stock
Marty Phillips and Rocky McNabb your front row, green flag! Phillips off 2 with the lead, but just behind him Jason Gregory tags Mike Townsend, around Gregory goes and caution flies. No laps so it’ll be a complete restart.

Green flag back in the air, McNabb and Phillips side by side off 2, Phillips down low, side by side off 4, but now Charlie Grooms is around in 4 here on lap 0.

Green flag back in the air, Phillips bangs into McNabb into 1, side by side off 2. McNabb off 4 with the run but they’re still side by side into 1, now McNabb with the lead but caution flies as Michael Courtney slows with smoke. 1 lap now complete.

Green flag back in the air, McNabb off 2 with the charge over Phillips and Gregory in 3rd. Caution as Brandon Cooper goes around off the front bumper of Jeremy Teffeteller.

Green flag back in the air, Phillips glued to the rear bumper of McNabb, but McNabb pulls away off 2. Phillips loose off 4, that allows Gregory to close in. Kealey Lowe inside Dixon for position, now Anthony Dixon gets a run and pulls alongside Lowe. Up front McNabb showing the way with 5 laps complete. Phillips about 3 car lengths behind with Gregory in 3rd. Townsend and Robert Burris the next 2, with Lee Merritt and Mitchell Fox the next 2 after that. Now Phillips reels in and pulls alongside McNabb with 9 laps complete. Side by side for the lead. McNabb now opens some breathing room over Phillips with lap traffic in his windshield. Phillips now with a run on McNabb, he’ll take the lead and bobble and McNabb will power back around for the lead! Dandy of a race shaping up but now McNabb up in smoke and flames, caution here on lap 14.

Green flag back in the air, Phillips opening up a big gap over Gregory, with Burris now around Gregory as Gregory slows. Merritt finds himself in 3rd, but now Bryant Idles is around in 2 here on lap 16.

Green flag back in the air, Phillips lead off 2 by 3 car lengths. Burris in 2nd with Merritt in 3rd. Townsend and Fox side by side for 4th. Checkers on this one, Phillips takes the win over Burris and Merritt.

Sportsman
Wayne Rader and Heath Alvey your front row, green flag! Alvey with the lead but now into 1 we have a pileup as Brett Ashley went around first, collects Tony Lindsey, Tony Spoon, Eddie Morris, and Steve Hillard. Caution with 0 laps. All drivers are OK. Complete restart coming.

Green flag back in the air, Alvey with the charge into 1 and off 2, Jaylon Shannon inside Rader and Robbie Comer for the top 3, but caution flies as Blake Kelley is around in 2. 0 laps, complete restart once again.

Green flag back in the air, Alvey shows the way off 2, Comer, Rader, and Jaylon Shannon 3-wide off 2. Now caution flies off 2 as DJ Shannon spins in 2, but we stayed green, but then DJ Shannon pulled into the racing groove and stopped to bring out the caution.

Green flag back in the air, but just like that caution flies as Jaylon Shannon jumps the start.

Green flag back in the air, we’ll try again. Alvey with a boost from Comer, Alvey with the lead off 2. Rader in 2nd, with Jaylon Shannon to his inside. Jaylon Shannon and Rader side by side. Comer just behind those 2 with Ashley behind him. Comer looking for room around Jaylon Shannon. Now in 4 Kelley is around.

Green flag back in the air, looking for 20 laps. Alvey shows the way off 4, Rader in 2nd, Jaylon Shannon in 3rd. Comer 4th with Ashley in 5th. Rader chasing down Alvey, Ashley has reeled in Comer, now DJ Shannon slows and stalls in 2 to bring out the caution here on lap 7.

Green flag back in the air, Alvey shows the way into 1, but Jaylon Shannon powers around Rader to claim 2nd. Comer looking for room around Rader, now Ashley looks inside on Comer, falls in line. Ashley trying to mount a run on Comer, but now Comer begins to pull away. Alvey, Jaylon Shannon, and Rader your top 3 at lap 10. Now caution here on lap 13 as Ashley tags the wall off 2, which turns his car head-on into the tire just past the opening in 2. That was the nastiest crash I’ve seen here. He climbs from his machine under his own power but I’m sure he’ll be sore tomorrow.

Green flag back in the air, Alvey off 2 with the lead, Jaylon Shannon in 2nd, Comer and Rader side by side. Comer inside Rader, but Rader gets the advantage this lap. Alvey dominating here thus far, Jaylon Shannon about 4 car lengths behind. Rader about 4 behind him. Checkers on this one, it’s Alvey taking the win with Jaylon Shannon and Rader rounding out the top 3.

Street Stock

Shannon Emery and Jerry Hux your front row, ready to roll, green flag. Hux shows the way into 3, Jason Sizemore leans on Emery, they all keep it straight. Drew Kennedy in 4th with Lynn Phillips rounding out the top 5. Caution here on lap 3 as Austin Atkins is around in 4.

Green flag back in the air, but into 1 we’ve got a pileup as Bret Banks, Mike Williams, Brady Lee, Jeff McLemore, and Austin Atkins are all crashed. All drivers OK.

Green flag back in the air, Hux being hounded by Emery, now Sizemore is around in 4 here on lap 4.

Green flag back in the air, Hux showing the way, now Larry Rudd sends Sizemore around in 2. Caution here on lap 5.

Green flag back in the air, Hux shows the way into 1. Emery in 2nd and now here comes Shannon Smith as he powers around Kennedy for the 3rd spot. Kennedy back to 4th with Charlie Bates now powering into 5th. David Price just behind them as Emery turns up the heat on Hux. Sizemore working his way back up through the field, he’s around Scott Atkins with his sights set on Price. Hux still showing the way over Emery and Smith. Bates now up in smoke, but he’ll keep chugging along. Caution here on lap 14 for debris on the frontstretch.

Green flag back in the air, but we’ll make a lap as Kennedy slows into 1.

Green flag back in the air with 5 laps to go. Hux your leader, Emery in 2nd, Smith in 3rd, he’ll drift high into 3. Williams gets sideways, collects Kennedy and Austin Byrd. 16 laps complete.

Green flag back in the air, Hux shows the way into 3 with Emery in 2nd. Now Price slides into the 3rd spot with Sizemore in 4th. Checkers on this one, it’s Hux, Emery, and Price your top 3.

7th Annual Steel Head National
Cory Hedgecock and Josh Collins your front row, ready to go, green flag in the air! Hedgecock shows the way off 2, Collins in 2nd, but green never flies as Hedgecock jumps. We’ll try again, and Hedgecock again jumps, so again green doesn’t fly. So we’ll try again, this time we go. Collins with the jump off 2, Hedgecock in 2nd, Ryan King in 3rd. Jason Manley inside Josh Henry for 4th, he’ll slidejob Henry into 1. Now Henry does a slidejob on Manley off 4, now Hedgecock inside Collins to battle for the lead, falls back in line. Steve Smith closing in on Manley, with Rusty Ballenger just behind him as he moves around Ruben Mayfield, but caution flies here on lap 4 as Mark Leach spins on the frontstretch.

Green flag back in the air, Ballenger jumps the start but we stay green. Collins, Hedgecock, and King your top 3 at lap 6. Manley, Smith, and Jensen Ford the next 3. Ballenger inside Henry with Mack McCarter closing in. Henry powers around Ballenger up high. Ford working the low line as he chases Smith. Mayfield now inside on Ballenger and powers around him, brings McCarter with him. Collins and Hedgecock the top 2 as Collins can’t pull away over Hedgecock with lap traffic just ahead. King hanging onto 3rd with Manley in 4th, but caution flies here on lap 12 as Henry stalls in 4.

Green flag back in the air, Manley, Smith, and Ford 3 wide in 2, but now Manley and Smith tangle, McCarter spins into the infield as several cars checked up. Caution flies and Manley and Smith are called the caution cars as they were deemed to have started the chain of events.

Green flag back in the air, Hedgecock around Collins for the lead, now Collins powers back around but caution flies here on lap 15.

Green flag back in the air, Hedgecock powers away off 2, leaves Collins in the dust. Mayfield inside on Ballenger, they almost touch, but Mayfield avoids it and continues on. Hedgecock the leader, Collins in 2nd, but now caution flies here on lap 19 as Manley slows in 3.

Green flag back in the air, Hedgecock picks up where he left off, Collins quickly about 10 car lengths behind. King about 5 behind Collins now. Ballenger ahead of Mayfield as Ballenger tries to reel in King. Ford will get sideways in 4 and pull into the infield with no caution. Everyone has now sorted things out amongst themselves, opening gaps on each other here with 6 laps to go. Checkers on this one, it’s Hedgecock taking the win over Collins and King to become the 7th different winner in the 7th Annual Steel Head National.
