RACE NIGHT RECAP

Mod-Mini
In Mod-Mini action, Cory Cate and Chuck McMahan would lead the field to the green flag, but Cate would make some contact with the frontstretch wall while racing hard. Terry Poore meanwhile was on a tear, charging from his 7th starting spot all the way to the 2nd spot. He would make a couple challenges for the lead, but nobody had anything for McMahan. Brad Pressley would try several laps to take over the 2nd spot, but Poore would eventually pull away as Pressley would lose the handle on his machine off turn 2. After the dust settled on this one, McMahan would take the checkers, Poore wound up 2nd, and Pressley brought home 3rd.

Topless Modifieds
In Topless Modified action, Layne Clifton would lose a motor in the heat race — AFTER the checkers — which meant one less car in the feature. Johnny Ridings would quickly jump out to the lead, with Curtis Thomas charging hard from 4th, making contact with Marvin Romines to take over 2nd spot quickly, but would fall into the 2nd spot, before finally being overtaken by Marvin Romines a few laps later, but it was all Johnny Ridings, until bad luck would strike Ridings once again, with a broken axle with only 5 laps to go while leading. Ridings would pull into the pit area, handing the win over to Marvin Romines. Curtis Thomas came home in 2nd, with Cody King bringing home 3rd.

Super Trucks
In Super Truck action, we saw heat race winner Cory Cate jump out to the early lead and never look back, but the battle was on for 2nd. Contact in the heat race with Freddy Hillard, forced him to pull into the infield with a flat, but when the feature rolled around, Hillard would charge all the way to the 2nd spot, when contact with Rocky Ogle would send Freddy Hillard into the pit area early. In the end, Cate would pick up another win on the season, with Ogle bringing home 2nd and Steve Hillard coming in 3rd!

Street Stocks
In the Chris Breeden Realty Executives Street Stock Shoot-Out action, we saw Tim England spin early in turn 1 to bring out the caution before a full lap was completed. A complete restart was set up, and Tazewell Speedway’s own Mike Hodge elected to make it a Delaware Double File restart, allowing Jon Cook to start out front on his own, but at the green flag, he would finally pull alongside. However, in turn 1, Fast Time Qualifier Quinn Bender would lose the handle on his machine, slamming into the left-rear of Hodge, turning him in front of the field, which about 10 seconds later, the entire crowd was left in shock along with the flagman, as almost the entire field was piled up in turns 1 and 2 with Bender almost into the scoreboard. The red flag was thrown, and remained out for approximately 20 minutes while the mess was cleaned up. Most of the field was able to get going and another complete restart was had. This time, the field would get to lap 3 before the right-rear tire off Matt Letterman’s machine would come flying off his ride, and rolling through the infield. A handful of laps later, the caution was thrown again as England lost a rear end gear. Throughout the remaining laps, Cook and Hodge would swap the lead a time or two through several more cautions, and Hodge never gave up, finally making his way around Cook for the lead, and despite every effort by track officials to let the Street Stocks get their full scheduled 25 laps in, the feature ultimately had to be cut to 15 laps to allow time for the remaining features to be ran. Hodge was able to survive an oil leak to claim the checkers, with Cook coming home in 2nd, and Brandon Jarnigan coming home in 3rd. Jarnigan was immediately DQed due to tires upon cross the scales, handing 3rd to Dave Smith, who was also DQed at the scales for tires, handing 3rd to Raymond Shepard. In post-race tech, the winner, Hodge, was DQed due to suspension, handing the win to Cook, with Shepard now in 2nd, and Brian Dinkins now in 3rd. Following inspection of Cook’s machine, his suspension too was deemed illegal, thus resulting in a 4th DQ, handing the win finally over to Shepard, with Dinkins getting the 2nd spot, and 3rd going to Larry Rudd, who started 11th! So, if you’ve lost track, 4 of the top 5 finishers were DQed following the feature!

Classics
In Classics action, polesitter Drew Kennedy would quickly jump out to the early lead, with Adam Engel falling in 2nd and Rocky Estes, Jr. in 3rd. Throughout this entire feature, Estes would wear out the rear mirror of Engel, who was trying everything he could to get his first win in the Classic division, but Kennedy was too strong. In the end, Kennedy took the checkers, Engel held onto the 2nd spot despite a mirror full of Estes, Jr. the entire 20 laps, with Estes, Jr. coming home in the 3rd position!

Late Models – A-Main
In Late Model action, we saw hometown hero Rusty Ballenger take the lead quickly on the start, while Mark Vineyard would jump into the 2nd position and challenge for the lead the entire feature. 8th place starter and 2010 champ Josh Collins would charge into the 3rd spot to make it a 3-way battle. Vineyard would challenge for the lead several times, until finally, off turn 2, Vineyard would power into the lead, but an untimely caution shortly after, would void the pass. Ballenger would be placed back into the lead, where through a few more cautions, he would hold the lead, and finally, the feature was shortened to 25 laps due to time expiring on the feature, but not before a late restart would set up another chance for Vineyard or Collins to claim the checkers in shootout fashion. However, after the checkers fell and the dust had finally settled, Ballenger would pick up his first late model victory over Vineyard and Collins! Notable Mention: Josh Henry won the B-Main in convincing fashion, after his qualifying time was disallowed due to a tire infraction. Despite having his back against the wall, Josh Henry showed why he’s called “The Jet”, charging from his 17th starting spot all the way up to 5th! Very impressive for the B00 crew!

Late Models – B-Main
In Late Model B-Main action, Josh Henry, who was the original Fast Time Qualifier but had his time disallowed due to tires, would jump out to the early lead and blast his way to the checkers, but he would first have to hold out through a couple cautions due to beating and banging for the 4th and final transfer spot. At the end of the 10 lap B-Main, Henry would take the checkers, with Keith Chapman, Tim Damron, and Hugh Scalf rounding out the top 4. Henry and Chapman automatically transferred, while Damron and Scalf both elected to transfer to the A-Main, setting up a full field of 20 late models!

Pure Mini
In Pure-Mini Action, we saw heat race winner Scott Webb take off with the early lead, but Dalton King worked throughout the entire feature to finally get around Webb late to cruise to the checkers. Webb brought it home in 2nd, with 3rd place going to Chris Singleton!
