RACE NIGHT RECAP

Mod-Mini
In Mod-Mini action, we saw points leader Tommy Metler suffer engine trouble in the hot lap session. The blue deuce of Terry Poore would return to victory lane. Poore would lead all 20 laps – unchallenged – until the last lap. Tim Miller mounted a late-race charge to the front, eventually finishing in the 3rd spot. Off turn 4 coming to the checkers, Dave Lewis powered to the inside of Poore, but would finish 2nd by about a half car length.

Leaders: #2-Poore (1-20)
Time of Race: 10 minutes 26 seconds

Topless Modifieds
In Topless Modified action, we saw yet another battle between Mike Lewis and Layne Clifton, almost an exact replica of just 6 days prior in the Chris Breeden Realty Executives Topless Modifieds Shoot-Out. Lewis would claim the early lead, powering off turn 2 ahead of Clifton, Over the course of the next several laps, Clifton would stalk Lewis. Lewis would catch up to slower traffic around lap 9, and that allows Clifton to bypass into the lead off turn 2. With a caution a lap later, Clifton would power away with the lead, with Keith Gregory looking for a piece of the action,  but Clifton and Lewis would eventually create some breathing room ahead of Gregory. With the caution flag flying with only 4 laps remaining, which allowed Lewis to restart on the bumper of Clifton. The field would get the green, only to get placed back under caution as points leader Josh Driskill spins in turn 1, and Marvin Romines have issues. On the restart one more time, Lewis tried to mount a charge, he would even get his machine up on 2 wheels, but he didn’t have enough, as Clifton picks up the win. Lewis came home in 2nd, and Gregory rounded out the top 3.

Leaders: #15-Lewis (1-9); #23-Clifton (10-20)
Time of Race: 10 minutes 9 seconds

Super Trucks
In Super Truck action, the famous “Purple Truck Eater” was MIA, which opened an opportunity for some guys to gain points on Robbie Comer, albeit still not enough to catch up, but to make it a little closer. Cory Cate would snatch the lead off turn 2, seemingly walking away with the win, until Clyde Stanton would start closing the gap and eventually snatch the lead on lap 6. Stanton would go on to pick up the win, with Cate in 2nd and Rocky Ogle rounding out the top 3.

Cautions: 2
Leaders: #92-Cate (1-6); #74-Stanton (7-20)
Time of Race: 7 minutes 22 seconds

Street Stocks
In Street Stock action, we saw heat race winner Andy Diggs drop back from the pole to the 2nd spot off turn 2, as points leader Raymond Shepard powered off with the lead. Brad Mills moved into the 3rd position. On lap 15, Larry Rudd would look to the outside of Dave Smith, but Smith runs up the track a little, forcing Rudd up into the wet, loose mud, and Rudd would hit the outside wall of turn 3, wind up on his side and ride the wall to turn 4, where he would finally land on all 4 tires. Rudd would leave the track on the hook. Phil Davis would try for all 20 laps to get around Diggs for the 2nd spot, but never could make the pass. Diggs and Davis were battling hard the last couple laps, even closed in on Shepard for the lead, but it was too little too late as Shepard picks up another win for the season. Diggs wound up 2nd with Davis crossing the line in 3rd!

Cautions: 2
Leaders: #11-Shepard (1-20)
Time of Race: 15 minutes 39 seconds

Classics
In the Classics division, we saw Marvin Ray and Phil Blackford on the front row, but it didn’t take any time for Blackford to quickly snatch the lead – in fact, only to turn 2! Ray, fresh off a win Sunday, would fade to the 3rd spot, where young hotshoe Adam Engel, who is still fighting for the elusive first win, would quickly take over the 2nd spot. Over the whole 20 laps, a blanket could be thrown over the top 3, as Engel worked hard to try to get around Blackford, and Ray worked hard on getting around Engel. In the end, Blackford picks up his first win for the season, with Adam Engel taking home another 2nd place finish, and Marvin Ray rounding out the top 3.

Leaders: #12-Blackford (1-20)
Time of Race: 8 minutes 49 seconds

Late Models
In Late Model action, it was another classic duel to the checkers, as it seems late-race charges are the ticket in the division this season. With the green flag in the air, it wouldn’t take long for the first caution to fly, as the field only made it to turn 1 before Pierce McCarter would get into Adam Beeler, sending Beeler on a hard ride into turn outside wall in turn 1. Beeler was definitely not at all happy, and his night ends before it even began. With a complete restart, the field would take the green flag once again, but caution would fly quickly yet again, as Barrett Terry would spin in turn 1. Justin Summers and Heath Alvey also get a piece of the action, with Summers getting the worst end of the deal it appears. Summers was well on his way to a win Sunday, when points leader Josh “Superman” Collins powered from the 7th starting position to claim the win – with just 6 laps remaining! Summers would eventually finish 3rd on Sunday, but his night tonight starts off horrible. With the green flag back in the air, Fast Time Qualifier Bobby Giffin would power away with the lead off turn 2, with Brad Lowe falling in the 2nd position, and the field makes it to lap 3 before the caution flies again, as 2009 champ Jason Cardwell, driving the #21 this week, spins in turn 2. Only a couple laps later, Cardwell would spin again, as Pierce McCarter and Josh Collins were battling it out for the 4th spot. With the green flag in the air, the field hoped to make a few laps, but they would only get one more lap in the books before caution flies again as Clyde Stanton breaks a tie-rod, and exits into the pit area. The green flag would fly again, this time however, the field would stay green! Giffin powers away with the lead off turn 4, with Lowe in tow(e?) and Ryan King taking the 3rd spot. Pierce McCarter had made contact earlier in the feature with Josh Collins and Ryan King, this time, Collins powers to the inside of Pierce McCarter and the two would make contact, with Collins taking the 4th spot on lap 12, but up front, Giffin still in the lead, as we see Giffin, as we complete lap 12. Giffin would make it 3 wide with Freddy Romines and Summers, as Giffin has to get around these two as Lowe is right there waiting to pounce, but caution flies on lap 15 for debris off turn 2. With the feature finally half over, the field would see the green flag again, with Giffin powering into the lead, with Lowe still in 2nd, and King in 3rd. Pierce McCarter starts fishtailing after chopping off Collins in turn 4, Collins doesn’t want to slow down, he’ll make contact with Pierce McCarter. Collins and Pierce McCarter have been going at it for a few laps, but I don’t think anybody has gotten away without damage, except the top 2. Giffin catches up to the backmarkers, Lowe in 2nd still, with King in 3rd, but Collins is coming, with only 7 laps to go. On lap 24, Giffin starts losing some of the handling on his machine, he has trouble navigating the rough seas of backmarker traffic, and “The South Knoxville Superstar“ powers into the lead. The caution will fly on lap 27 for debris once again, and that is sure to set up a barn-burner of a finish. With the green flag in the air, Lowe powers off turn 4 with the lead. Then, in turn 1, a nightmare strikes Lowe, and a dream comes true for Giffin, as Lowe overshoots turn 1, drifts up into the loose/wet stuff, he’ll smack the wall, give the lead to Giffin! Lowe coasts around to turn 3 and stops to bring out caution one last time. With the final green flag in the air, Giffin would power on to take the win, Ryan King takes 2nd, and Danny Floyd rounds out the 3rd spot. Honorable mention has to go out to Barrett Terry, as he spun on the 2nd restart, but bounced back to finish 4th! Very impressive!

Cautions: 8
Leaders: #97-Giffin (1-23); #16-Lowe (24-27); #97-Giffin (27-30)
Time of Race: 25 minutes 45 seconds

Pure Mini
In Pure-Mini action, the lead swapped hands a couple of times, with all sorts of action on the track over the course of the 20 laps, but we eventually saw Blake Hall pull off, handing the win to Dalton King over Sunday winner James Mitchell, with Scott Webb rounding out the top 3.
