2008 Rule Book

1. Disclaimer
   THE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS SET FORTH HEREIN DO NOT EXPRESS OR IMPLY WARRANTY OF SAFETY. THEY ARE INTENDED AS A GUIDE FOR THE PARTICIPATION IN THE TENNESSEE CLASSIC CAR RACING ASSOCATION (TCCRA) AND IN NO WAY GUARANTEE THE SAFETY OF THE MEMBER AGAINST EITHER INJURY OR DEATH.

   These rules lay out what can or can not be done. Anything not stated that it can be done, or you find questionable and expand on it, will be considered illegal at the time found even if the rule is changed to approve it at a later date. These racecars are intended to be as identical as possible, much like the "IROC" series cars. It is the skill of the driver and the knowlege of the science of suspension setup that determines the true champion and not the depth of the wallet. If anything is found illegal before a race starts, you will be told what you need to do and by when. If you are not sure, have officials check your car prior to the race. There will be no discussion if you are found illegal. If these rules say you can't do it, it is illegal. If these rules say you can do it, it is legal.

2. Catch All Rule:
   The absence of a specific rule does not imply approval, consent, or give permission regarding that subject. Anything not clearly approved and defined in these rules will be found illegal. Any modifications not mentioned are not allowed. If you are unsure of the technical definition of any rule, get it defined by an official. Do not assume or interpret an item to be correct or allowed just because it is not specifically written in the rules. We do not want to disqualify anyone, so verify anything you want to do if you are unsure. If a competitor feels something on another competitors car is incorrect in some way, he or she should notify the officials so the matter can be resolved. The spirit and intent behind the written rules will always prevail when an interpretation by a TCCRA official is made. All decisions made by officials concerning the legality of parts is final. Anyone found illegal will have to start in the rear for three consecutive weeks. The TCCRA reserves the right to modify these rules as the situation needs.

3. Inspections:
   All racecars are subject to inspection at any time and in any manner by TCCRA officials. All decisions regarding which cars will be inspected prior to or after racing events are final. The rules are clear and defined so your racecar is expected to be in accordance with TCCRA rules any time it is checked.

4. Engine Claiming Rules and Procedures:
   
   1. There is an Eighteen Hundred Dollars and No Cents ($1800.00) cash, plus track fee, to claim engines. This is a total fee without an exchange. An engine can only be claimed after the feature race. An engine cannot be claimed when the TCCRA is competing the next day.
   2. Sellers Choice: The seller may choose Three Hundred Fifty Dollars and No Cents ($350.00) plus the buyers engine instead of $1800.00 without exchange.
   3. First three position finishers are subject to engine claim Whether running or not. First three positions are not eligible to claim an engine.
   4. Any driver running 4th through 10th may make claims on top three.
   5. Engine must be running at the end of the race in the car making the claim.
   6. Only the driver may claim and only the driver may agree to sell or refuse to sell the engine. The driver will have 15 minutes to make the decision to sell or not to sell and that decision is binding.
   7. Claims must be made within 10 minutes of the end of the feature race to officials. Claimed engine must be removed from the car within two hours from the time of the claim. Intent to claim may be told to officials prior to the start of the feature to be certain officials will be readily accessible within the time limit following the race. If not, claimant is responsible for locating officials with in the allotted time limit.
   8. Only the affected driver drivers and officials are allowed in the claiming area. Officials will specify if anyone else is allowed in the area.
   9. Driver making claim must drive his or her racecar to the location track specifies if his or her engine is to be swapped for the one claimed.
   10. Drivers are allowed one claim only per event, regardless of the outcome of that claim. In case of multiple claims on the same engine, the engine will go to the qualified claiming driver finishing farthest back in the feature race.
   11. Claims must be made to official with $1800.00 cash. If applicable, driver making claim will have to pay wrecker to move one or both engines.
   12. Driver must have participated in four previous TCCRA races during the calendar year in order to claim.
   13. Once claim is made, car will be pushed to the tech area for inspection and engine removal. The engine's serial number will be recorded and the driver making claim must use this engine in his or hers racecar the next time he or she competes. This rule does not apply to out-of-state racers who compete infrequently.
   14. Refusal to sell forefits all cash and contingency winnings for the heat race, time trials and feature race and any trophies earned. Refusal to sell will also result in loss of all TCCRA points earned for the season prior to the event.
   15. No driver may claim more than two engines during the racing season. No one driver may claim any other driver's engine more than once during the racing season.
   16. Engine claim rules consist of removing starter, distributor, carburetor, waterpump, pulleys, headers and valve covers if switched with buyer.
   17. Once the claimed engine is pulled from the racecar the motoe will be marked, the oilpan will be removed and officials will inspect for illegal parts (refer to engine claiming rules and procedures.

5. Transmission Claiming Rules:
   
   1. There is a Four Hundred Dollars and No Cents ($400.00) cash claim of the complete transmission and torque converter.
   2. Claimant may take buyers transmission and converter and add One Hundred Dollars and No Cents ($100.00).
   3. Claim rules and procedures are the same as for engine claiming.

6. Visual Protests:
   A visual protest will not require a measuring device, or the removal of any part, or a fee, and must be made prior to a race. The driver and/or car owner in violation will be notified by the committee and the violation must be corrected by the next racing event if it is a non performance enhancement. If the committee determines it to be performance enhancing they will disqualify the car until it is changed to legal status.

7. Protest Involving a Fee:
   
   1. A Normal protest fee is $200.00 to pull one head, $150.00 to pull oil pan, and $200.00 to pull piston and rod.
   2. Such protests will require a measuring device or the removal of engine parts, body parts or chassis parts. If engine must be pulled for inspection, driver filing protest must pay wrecker fee, if necessary.
   3. Any protest found to be valid and/or any parts found not meeting TCCRA rules during tear down will mean its disqualification and $350.00 will be returned to the person filing the protest.
   4. If parts are found to be legal or protest otherwise found to be invalid, $350.00 will be paid to the competitor being protested.
   5. Track will determine the people permitted in the inspection area during a tear down.
   6. Any engine found illegal during protest will result in forfeiture of points, money, and trophies for that event.
   7. Failure to tear down is an immediate disqualification and loss of all monies, points, and trophies won at event.

8. Tech Methods:
   
   1. Almost all tech methods are verified by jigs, measuring devices, plugs and go or no go gauges. Very few items are left to the judgment of the naked eye.
   2. When engines are checked with a P and G tester, the "Classic" engine can not show to be more than 316 cubic inches. Prior to being disqualified, a driver may tear the engine down for visual inspection and final determination.

9. Car Bodies and Attached Parts:
   
   1. Mirrors are allowed but may not protrude outside of body at any point.
   2. No covering of side or rear windows is allowed. The passenger side window must be cut out to allow driver exit. Rear window may be enlarged but retain original shape. Sedan rear side windows can also be enlarged but must retain original shape. A roof hatch is allowed.
   3. Side nerf bars can be of owner's design as long as they protect from tire climbing as much as possible. The front and rear of the nerf bars must be curved in toward body closer than outer edge of tires. No open ended bars exposed to other cars allowed. The nerf bars can come through the body and connect to the roll cage and/or frame. They cannot be built of any stock over 1 3/4"" outside diameter.
   4. A firewall and floorboard must cover as much of the interior area as is reasonably possible. The firewall and floorboard may be constructed of aluminum or metal. It can be laid out to the owner's preference.
   5. No part shall protrude through the hood other than hood retaining hardware.

10. Cooling System:
    
    1. An OEM belt-driven style water pump of steel of aluminum required. Any pulley combination allowed.
    2. A catch can is required to be connected to all radiators.
    3. No antifreeze allowed in car on racetrack.

11. Chassis and Suspension:
    
    1. The frame must be from the 78-88 mid size metric GM such as Monte Carlo, Regal, Grand Prix, Cutlass, Malibu, El Camino, GMC Sprint or the station wagon versions of some of these brands.
    2. The frame can not be lightened by removal of essential metal. The rear frame rails behind the spring pockets can be replaced with steel tubing. The two side frame channels can have tubing or flat plating installed within the channel rails for crash protection if not connected directly to both the front and rear clip assemblies.
    3. The frame is required to have an X-brace built into the bottom of it.
    4. Only Steel shocks with welded ends. $75.00 Buy rule per shock.
    5. A fully adjustable dual master cylinder brake pedal and master cylinder assembly is allowed. Any aftermarket steel caliper is allowed. An adjustment knob or wheel is allowed in easy reach of the driver for on track adjustment.
    6. Springs may be of the owner's own choice on pound per inch ratings. They have to be a minimum of 5 inches outside diameter. There is no minimum or maximum length requirement. Front and rear springs must mount in original locations. No coil-over shock and spring combinations allowed. The spring mounts on the top of the rear end housing can be made or modified so springs sit on them properly. They will have to remain within 1" of stock location.
    7. Weight jack bolts are allowed on all 4 corners as are spring buckets. The rear spring pocket must retain the outside OEM configuration. The spring or jack bucket can locate vertically anywhere through it. The rear top shock mount can protrude through the spring pocket area. The side of the frame beside the front springs can be cut out to owner's choice.
    8. Any size diameter front sway bar is allowed from any stock production vehicle. Any mounting and adjustment design can be used. GM, Ford, Chrysler or other allowed. Any rear sway bar allowed.
    9. Any power steering gear allowed that will bolt back on original GM location. Any power steering pump and pulley assembly allowed. Any manual steering box allowed. Steering quickeners are allowed. NO RACK AND PINION units allowed!
    10. Tie rods, drag links, idler arm and steering arm must all be OEM parts for this chassis. No specialty aftermarket parts allowed. No changing to other sizes or styles to try to improve handling or performance. Steering box and idler arm can be shimmed at the frame mount for best alignment or clearance problems as from wreck damage or front frame rail alignment.
    11. Aftermarket steel rotors are allowed on front spindles and any size lug studs are allowed. OEM rotors can be reinforced for saftey.
    12. Only metric 1978 to 1988 chassis spindles are allowed. No big metric spindles allowed.
    13. Both front lower A-frames and all four-rear control arms must be original in length but rear cam be modified front and back. NO METAL BUSHINGS ARE ALLOWED.
    14. All frame and control arm mount points must be in original locations.
    15. Upper A-frames can be of owner's choice. Upper A-frame mount can be owner's choice but must stand up vertically to the frame rail. Any location is allowed for vertical placement of inner mounting point of upper A-frame or centerline of A-frame pivot shaft. No minimum clearance from frame to pivot shaft centerline is required. Upper A-frame mount holes cam be slotted vertically or horizontally if wanted.
    16. The front chassis cross member can be trimmed off below the drag link assembly for ease of repairs and clearance.

12. Driveshaft and Universal Joints:
    
    1. All driveshafts and u-joints must be of steel construction.
    2. Different drive shaft lengths are allowed. The minimum distance allowed from the rear flange on the engine (not transmission) at 2nd bolt above starter to front of rear differential housing (as near to where axle tube goes into center housing as can be measured) is 92 1/4" inches.
    3. A drive shaft loop is required just rear of the front u-joint.
    4. The drive shaft must be painted white.

13. Electrical System:
    
    1. All cars are required to have a master shut off switch mounted in clear view and reach of the drivers window for easy emergency crew access.
    2. OEM distributor is required but aftermarket parts allowed to replace all components. No external coil or other units allowed. All parts must remain in the distributor as OEM.
    3. Radios are allowed.

14. Engine Specifications:
    
    1. If an engine is found illegal, the driver will lose all monies, points and trophies won at the event.
    2. NO 265, 283, 302, 327, 350 or 400 ENGINES ALLOWED PERIOD!
       
    3. Only 305 cubic Chevy engines allowed. They must be original 1 or 2-piece rear main seal design. Cast iron blocks only. No 4-bolt main blocks allowed. A maximun of 0.060 overbore plus tolerance equaling 3.806" allowed or 316 cu.in. No additional tolerance allowed.
    4. Legal heads consist of the cast iron emissions GM factory head. These heads will have a casting number of 376450 or 14022601 ONLY, with a minimum combustion chamber volumm of 53cc. They must be totally of the same design as original on the early 305 engines such as valve angles, valve cover mounting and total bolt pattern for head bolts and intake bolts. Any head that shows definite performace gains will be omitted from competition. No VORTEC head or intake combinations allowed.
    5. NO PORTING OR POLISHING ALLOWED. Valve face and seat angle combinations are to owner's option. Valve guides and seat replacement is okay but do nothing to improve placement or locating angles. Heads are meant to only have a good basic head job done and nothing to build signigicant horsepower gains in flow or other characteristics. Resurfacing is allowed. The boss shoulder where the short head bolts go through can not be shorter than 7/8" or 0.875". Head gaskets must be no less than 0.038" minimum thickness after compressed.
    6. Balancing of all rotating parts allowed. No excessive metal removal.
    7. MUST BE A GM STAMPED CRANKSHAFT. It can have your normal engine rebuilding work, but no major weight saving or knife edging of throws allowed. Journal radius work is okay. The stock 3.48" stroke must be maintained. A 2.065" rod journal minimum allowed. The oil flow holes may be chamfered. MINIMUM CRANK WEIGHT OF 50 POUNDS.
    8. Any of the 5.7" length normal production line stock GM rods for small blocks allowed. Onlt 2.100" rod bearing size rods can be used. Any rod bolts allowed. The beams can not be polished.
    9. Valves must be of original 1.50" amd 1.84" diameters or smaller. Aftermarket stainless steel valves or such equivalent are allowed. Brush or swirl finish valves are allowed but no mirror finish valves. OEM stem size is required.
    10. Valve springs can not be more than 1.275" diameter. Springs can only be of original style consisting of one outer spring and one inner flat style damper spring. Springs must have no more than 120 pounds closed seat pressure. Any type steel spring retainer and keeper assembly allowed. Any screw-in or press-in rocker studs allowed. These include 3/8" or 7/16" rocker studs. Guide plates are allowed, as are hardened pushrods of any length. Stud girdles are optional. Stamped steel long-slot rocker arms, roller tip rockers, or roller rockers are allowed. Rocker ratio is optional.
    11. The cam must be a flat tappet hydraulic design with original size diameter lifters. No mushroom or roller lifters allowed. Hydraulic lifter only. The cam lift can not exceed .420" at the valve. This is checked with a solid lifter in place of the hydraulic lifter. A 0.005 tolerance will be allowed or maximum due to production tolerances allowed by cam manufacturers. Nothing more than that will pass as legal. This is the maximum lift allowed regardless what ratio rocker you have chosen to use.
    12. Pistons can be cast or forged. They must have 4 eyebrow marks defined in the piston dome flat top design. Defined dish pistons allowed with only two eyebrows but no solid dome pistons allowed. Wrist pins can be floating or pressed and bushings allowed. No gas porting or pistons from the top allowed.
    13. Block decking is allowed. This is checked with a straight edge held in line with with wrist pin and engine cranked over with starter. Piston must not hit straight edge above block while cranking. All normal engine rebuilding machine work allowed on block. Oil drain holes can be screened. Oil paths can be polished to assist in return flow. Do not go getting exotic with your work as you could push over the limit. Minor work is allowed.
    14. Any standard production stamped GM small block chevy intake for cars and trucks allowed. Commonly used casting numbers are 14057055, 14014432 and 10185063. They can be of two or four barrel design and cast iron or aluminum. They MUST be of the late model emissions type with EGR valve mount on the intake. It must be plugged off and not functional. No VORTEC, off-road or marine intakes allowed. No porting or polishing allowed. A carburetor spacer or adapter with a 1.5" maximum thickness allowed.
    15. Any timing gear and chain allowed. No gear drives allowed. A cam walk button and cam thrust bearing allowed.
    16. Any harmonic balancer may be used. There is a One Hundred Dollar and No Cents ($100.00) buy rule for balancer.

15. Engine Location:
    
    1. Engine location is to be setting as close as possible to the center of the racecar chassis between the front frame rails. Minimal tolerance allowed.
    2. The distance between the rear flange on the engine to the front of the rear end assembly can not be less than 92 1/4". Measure from the 2nd bolt above the starter on the flange of the engine (not transmission) to the front of the rear end housing tube on the passenger side.

16. Exhaust System:
    
    1. Any header may be used. There WILL be a $200.00 buy rule for headers.

17. Fuel System:
    
    1. BOX STOCK HOLLEY 2 BARREL 4412 ONLY. NO OTHER 2 BARREL OR 4 BARREL CARBURETOR ALLOWED. $300.00 buy rule or $100.00 swap.
    2. Any fuel pump allowed that mounts on original engine fuel pump location. No belt drive or electric fuel pumps allowed.
    3. Any air cleaner is allowed as long as it does not force outside air into the air cleaner as in a ram air effect. Any flow directional device used inside the air cleaner is permitted.
    4. A fuel cell is required of no more than 8 gallon capacity. It must be mounted above and between the rear springs. Rear side of fuel cell can not be further that 3" rear of rear most point of rear end assembly cover. A maximum cubic inch outside displacement of 2270 cubic inches is allowed.

18. Oiling System:
    
    1. Engines must retain a wet sump system. Flow routing can be of owner's choice. Remote oil tanks are not allowed.

19. Rear Axle Assembly:
    
    1. The rear axle assembly must be OEM for 78-88 mid size GM metric cars such as Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Regal, or Grand Prix. Either 7.5" or 7.625".
    2. Gear ratio for the 7.5 rear-end will be 221, 241, 342, 373, 410, 430, or 456.
    3. The carrier for the ring gear can be of owner's choice and either steel. It can be a spool, locker positrack, and spider eleminator or welded spiders.
    4. Standard drum brake set-up and/or disc brakes on rear axle assembly.
    5. There will be a $25.00 protest rule rear axle assembly.

20. Safety Equipment:
    
    1. All TCCRA participants WILL abide by 411 Motor Speedway Track General and Safety Rules. These rules are found on the 411 Motor Speedway website.

21. Transmission:
    
    1. ONLY the GM TURBO 350 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION is allowed. NO TURBO 400, POWER GLIDE, or MANUAL transmissions allowed. All length 350 turbo transmissions allowed. Cases with Chevy and B.O.P. bolt paterns allowed.
    2. A stock torque converter is required. A 12 inch outside diameter is required.
    3. There is a $400.00 claim rule on the transmission.

22. Tread Width:
    
    1. Maximum tread width on front and rear is 76 inches. This is the width of the original spindles with a any offset wheel on any side.
    2. Width is determined at the axle of spindle centerline and at the widest point on the tire side wall.

23. Weight Requirements After Race:
    
    1. Minimum car weight is 2400 pounds with driver after the race.
    2. Ballast weight must be painted white and securely attached. It is mandatory you put your car number on it.
    3. No weight can be added after a race.

24. Wheels and Tires:
    
    1. Only 8" wide x 15" diameter steel wheels are allowed.
    2. Only 2", 3", and 4" offset wheels are allowed on either side
    3. Only 8" wide x 15" tires.
    4. 26.5 or 27.5 MEDIUM compound American Racer tires ONLY
